Hi all,
here's a challenge! Best method for making 1/35 scale sandbags without using either chiclets or putty! Also, and if all before is not possible, can someone provide a link to a supplier of 1/35 sandbags. These are not to be used on a tank but rather in a defensive position.
Cheers
Lee

Uhmmm...I think there is no "best" way. It really depends on the modeler. What way is best for the modeler is HIS best way.
I only know of sandbags from Tamiya. I don't use them because they're not flexible.

Angela,
thanks. Perhaps you are right. I will rephrase. Can someone supply an alternative to making sandbags from other than putty or ckicklets.

Ok - no chicklettes or putty
Then you are left with making an exact 1/35 scale bag. It has been done, you take tea bag material and cut a piece of about 4cm x 1.5cm (approx) fold in half to make a 2cmx1.5cm shape. Then glue or stitch the edges along the 2cm sides. This creates a bag. Fill with sand 80% then take some thread and tie the open top shut.

Neill's method is fantastic.
The only 1/35 sandbag supplier I know is Tamiya, Angela's said. I borrowed once and never used them, they are unrealistic to me. If you like I can send them to you, just PM me your mail address.

Lee I've used the tissue paper method for sandbags on a sherman. They do look excellent but beware if you do too many at one sitting you may go insane. If you can, make a line of sandbags and then a mould of them to cast from.
Also be careful not to make the sandbags too big.

Hey Lee
Not sure if you actually touched on 'why' you don't want to use these methods. IMHO putty works best and can reproduce what I think looks most realistic...
Cheers mate
Brad
And I'm sure that for a defensive wall it would be easier! Remember that you can use a box/crate at the bottom corner of a change of direction in a wall for reinforcement- breaks up the monotony also

Thanks Guy's
fantastic response with heaps of great ideas. I have tried the sand filled method now and, it works a treat. I used toilet tissue (unused :-) ) and sealed all up with fine cotton thread and white glue. They are much more realistic and I highly recommend this method.
Thanks
