Hi John... I apply a coat of gloss over my base work, put the decals on and the seal it with a layer of flat... It works fine for me apperantly..

I've had that happen, even after primer base coat.
Don't know why it did lift off, maybe too thick?
Was a pain to fix.
I went with a ( cheap ) airbrush after that.
Good Luck

Hi, John
You can buy f. ex. Tamiya TS-13 clear cote on a spray can. It works pretty good for a gloss coate. Be aware of the pressure in the can. It's easy to get too much paint on your models with this spray. The base colour has to be completly dry before you add the gloss coat. However, my best advice would be to buy an airbrush. Much more fun than the paint brush... :-)
Cheers
Erik

You could try a enamel gloss coat that wont react with acylics or try futures or kleer (not sure what its called in Oz) but that seems to work fine.

Yeah i place the Tamiya Clear Gloss before placing the decals on. You can thin the gloss to reduce its damage on the paint but if you brush it on too hard, it will peel more paint off.
I know you mention that you dont have an airbrush but spraying it on certainly solves the issue of damaging your base coat.
