Thanks again Scott for putting it up.
Thanks Keenan. It was vignette that I always wanted to do after coming across an article in the National Geographic 1968 issue which by chance I picked up from the used book store. Then came the Medic campaign and that was that.
Hearts & Minds was strangely enough a military creation. First thought up by the British SAS as part of a larger politico-military plan to combat the communist terrorist (CT) in my country before its independence. It purpose was to bring medical and social aid to indigenous tribes living in the deep jungles by inserting SAS teams to literary become part of the tribe and offering mainly medical assistance. This highly effective strategy took away experienced trackers and hunters from the CT.
The Americans SF adopted this from the British and took it with them to VIetnam. I tried to portray in my vignette a scene where a SF medic and his buddy visits a Montagnard village and is attempting to treat some Yard kids. One mother is trying to urge the younger brother on to receive treatment while another villager back from laundry and the SF medic's buddy looks on. SF medic's buddy has various wristbands and tattoo from participating in tribal ceremonies which normally include only those the Yards consider friends. The backdrop is part of a hut.
Both kids, M3 medic bag, stethoscope, pots, groundwork and hut, belt straps, berets and wrap arounds (on the 2 ladies) are scratchbuilt. Laundry lady from DML VC kit, Mother from Academy ACAV, SF medic from DML Marine recon and SF Buddy legs/arms from Academy ACAV and body from DML LRRP. All figs received minor to major surgery on arms. Mr. Piggy came away unscathed from Tamiya farm animals.
