Hi all
I have had this idea for a dio ever since i started my Burnsides Bridge dio having done a lot of reading over the last few weeks and two books i got real cheap 'Fighting men of the Civil War and 'Battle fields of the Civil War ..cost all of $6 there was a painting on the cover of one of them of the defence of Little Round Top at Gettysburg showing General Winfield Scott Hancock (and as the historians say there was no finer Union General) urging his troops on.
While i was waiting for things to dry with some figs for the bridge dio i thought i would put some ideas together.
The base is a box my mother in law was throwing out which i thought would be of use for this dio.
The stones are from the river next to my house the center stone will were Gen Hancock will be standing and his men will be in and around the other stones i want to try and capture the two figs on the left looking up at Hancock while the others are immersed in the battle, there will be about eight or nine figs in total.
I remember seeing this done by Bill Horan in a book i have back in the UK "Bill Horans Master Class in my humble opinion the man walks on water with regard figures.
Any feed back on the idea would be great.
Cheers Chris ....... .....now back to the bridge...lol lol

From the artist's (Don Troaini) home page description of this painting: "July 2,1863 Col. Strong Vincent stands on the crest of Little Round Top. After leaving his sword strapped to his horse, he directs his men with a riding crop. As Brig. Gen. Law's brigade charged towards them, Vincent encouraged his men by calling to them " Don't give an inch boys.""
Still a great idea, but that is not Hancock. Having heard Mr. Troiani describe his research and his attention to detail, I'd go with his information.

Chris, gee, thanks for calling me back, was worried about you and Pam with all that rain and all, I mean you guys living over a river and what. [ just kidding ].
You are right about the Horan book it's excellent.
Al is right though about the Troaini work .
Here is Mr Horans work you mentioned, it's called " Stand Fast, You Boys From Maine " and depicts Colonel Joshua Chamberlain of the 20th Maine, on Little Round Top.
Oh and whats with you and the Civil War interest latley looks like you've got bitten by the A.C.W. bug bad.
Later man - Cheyenne
