Hi,

Is there somebody who can help me with which, if any, of the AJ Press TANKPOWER publications on the PANTHER covers details, primarily plan drawings of the Panzerkampfwagen V Panther Ausf F, particularly plan drawings of the Schmalturm (narrow) turret.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Andrew.

Andrew, first of all - welcome to the site!!!

Secondly, in a sort of answer to your question I would say that (being familiar in General) with AJ Press's publications, you WOULD find what you're looking for within their series of the Panther. If you are serious about buying them, my advice is to buy them 'from source' i.e. from Poland. I came back from Warsaw in august with an absolute stack of books from various Polish publishers (only one AJ book though, on an aviation subject) and buying direct is around 60-75% cheaper so the Panther books wouldn't be a huge financial gamble.

Best place to start is here - the excellent jadar Models Website... ...Jim

I don't have any of the Panther books in the AJ Press series, but I can say the Tiger series is very good.

I believe there are 7 books in the Panther series. The Ausf F might be in one or more of them, but the problem is, which one if any. They don't seem to be in cronological order. Volume 1 is D, A and mostly G. Volume 2 is IR, G and first version of Bergepanther. Here's a review of 1 & 2...

Volume 3 is mostly D with some A and G...

Volume 4 is mostly A...

Looks like #5 is also about A...

Information about #6 is rather scarce, but it looks to be about late A. This link is cached and might not work. It points to AirConnection.on.ca, which carries AJ Press books, but doesn't have 6 in stock...

Volume 7 is has Flakpanzer, Panther Ausf. G actions in Battle of the Bulge - including Panther Ausf. G Ersatz M10...
Flakpanzer, Panther Ausf. G actions in Battle of the Bulge - including Panther Ausf. G Ersatz M10

That last link is from the publisher's site. Which brings me to the next probem with the AJ Press series...it's a bit hard to find the older ones. Even the publisher only has 1, 2, 4 and 7 available...

Here's a UK book store, Helion, which shows they have 3, 4 5, and 7...

Anyway, what I'd recommend are two hard cover books....

"Sd.Kfz.171 Pz.Kpfw. V Panther" by Waldemar Trojca. I have it and see it has 14+ pages of information and (mostly) drawings of the Auf.F. It's commonly available. Here it is on Helion...

I also have "Germany's Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy" by Thomas L. Jentz. It has fewer pages (12) about the F, but it has more information and pictures. It's also a bit less expensive....
http://www.helion.co.uk/product.php?xProd=725

It's even more readly available. Even Amazon has it.

Both books are very good, but between the two, I'd recommend the one by Jentz.

Take care.

Karl
