Hi Guys,
I've completed almost 90% my DML T-34/85 UTZ kit. The fenders were replaced by scratchbuilt aluminum sheets. The tie downs were replaced with wires. The engine screen/mesh was also replaced by scratchbuilt materials. The spare fuel tank brackets were also replaced by wires and aluminum sheets.
Here are some pics for requesting for critiques/nitpicks, etc.

Hi,
Thanks. I initially used Tamiya deep gree (xf-26), but the result is unsatisfactory so I re-painted it using tamiya flat green (xf-5).

Thanks for the postive comments. I'm not yet through with this kit, there are lots more to be added w/c is included with the kit. I also need to put the tactical numbers as well as slogans if there are any. I'll just post the final version once I did them...

The tracks and the fenders are really well done!
The dust accumulated on the tank is very realistic looking. Great job!

Looks great. I love the broken fenders and the rest of the weathering, especially the rust on the underside. What technique did you use for the rust?

I like the looks of of the tracks, but I'm not too crazy about the overall color of the paint. It just seems too light to me. Thanks for sharing. "Q"

A very well built kit. You show off the crudeness of this version quite well. Your weathering gives the appearance of a tank that has been out in the field for a period of time, yet the crew has taken care of it. My only concern is that you haven't put the markings on yet. If you use the decals, use all the tricks to eliminate silvering. If you paint or use some of the rub-on transfers make sure you go back and weather. This is a job I sure would be proud to own and place in my collection. I hope mine looks as good when I do it.

Hey Nice tank you have there.
I have some thoughts about the fenders.. but I think that will be a personal taste.
Further you have done a great job.
One question though, How did you put the white background behind it??

Hello Arvin,
Wonderful job on the T-34! I love the fender work, very convincing. I also liked the fuel tank work, the straps worked out very well. You did a great job on the weathering as well.
If I may, I have only one thing to point out. Wasn't there supposed to be a lens for the headlight? Or was the effect of a broken light was what you were going for? Just saw this and thought I might ask.
But anyway, you did a great job and should be proud!!
Best Wishes,
Walter

Hi Guys,
Tom: Its a combination of acrylic paints (4 colors) mixed with orange pastel chalk
Blaster76: I don't think I'm going to have a problem with silvering....but I guess I have a problem with my handwriting see tactical numbers..:-)
Hilbert: The white background is just white backgroubd. I just used those big drawing pads as base and background...
Here is the final product and please forgive my hand writing...:-)
All critiques are ver much welcome...
Cheers

Very nice build! Lots of little details all over... Esp. like the part where you sort of "broke" the grills of the air exhaust.
Planning to place it in a Dio or something..? Once again.. nice build Arvin..

Arvin,
A good looking T34/85 you got there. I like the subtle weathering, the texture and weld seam on turret, the torn engine screen, the lens on the headlight and hit marks (texture?) on the hull. Perhaps you can put some more rust on the exhaust pipes as well. By the way, did you mix your green colour? It looks quite convincing. It may looks even better if you put another layer of wash on it to breakdown the monotone colour. This is probably easier said than done.
Not too sure about the ice-cleat tie-downs. This is where I got stuck with my T34 too. Your way of depicting this details (using masking tape and wires?) is already more convincing than DML's suggestion. I am using Aber's PE and finding it difficult to pull it tight. Does it need to be tight in securing those ice-cleats? I still haven't found a photo showing how was it done in those days.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Donald,
You seem to be in luck because I found a photo of those ice-cleats(?). I just found it over the internet and I'm not sure if those things that they use are original -- as per DML they are supposed to be leather. I saw from some pics that the spare tracks were also placed there instead of those cleats and they were tied only by wire but I'm not actually sure because the pics were too small to identify what material was used to tie them. BTW, thank you very much for the positive review....
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Outstanding work on your T-34/85, Arvin. Paint color looks perfect, and you did a great job on the weathering. I really like the damaged fenders. The crude markings in the last few pics, gives the impression that they were hastily applied by the crew.
Great stuff, and keep up the good work !
Cheers !!

Great stuff, you just solved the mystery of ice-cleat tie-down. The washes does come out nicely, so I will take my previous comment back. The weld seam on the turret looks even better in this close-up shots.
This thread is definitely the motivation for me to finish off my T34. Thanks for the photo again.

Will do......but probably not this weekend. I got a bad feeling that my wife is going to find something better (in her opinion) for me to do.
In any case, your T34/85 will get my vote for the MOM.

Just tell your wife you are sick...sick of doing chores or just give her some cash to go on shopping while you build your models (shopping for new kits) :-) :-) :-) .
Seriously, I hope you can finish them...
Thanks you very much.
