Hello all,
I was just having a peak in my Dragon Firefly (kit 6121) to get geared up for when I'm starting it. I noticed that the dished wheels are a very poor mold, and that the suspaension doesn't quite cut the mustard either. So I thought lets have a look at the Academy Marines Sherman which I have in the stash.. ( two shermans in my stash, what is the world coming to.. ) Turns out that the Academy kit scales out a lot smaller than the Dragon kit. I'm not a rivet counter so I don't intend to measure the excact differences, but it does mean that I can't mix and match parts... .
Was the Firefly bigger than the M4A2? Or is the Academy kit to small?
Cheers
Henk

Henk,
The DML firefly uses an M4A4 hull, which was longer than the M4A2.
However everthing other than the hull parts should be the same, especially the suspension.
Regards
Joe

Thanks Joe, I think I'll replace the wheels at least.

Formations has an update set for the Dragon Firefly you might take a peek at that. Look on their products 9 page.
It or some of their other sets might have the parts you need.

Thanks Rob, I'm not planning on spending a fortune on either kit, I have an old Top Brass PE set which I got on the internet, and a nice figure set for the Firefly. I may replace the tracks on the Academy kit, but then again I might just weather them heavily enough to diguise the rubber bands..
I'm sorely tempted to break out the Firefly tonight, and to h%%$ with the partbuild kits on the shelf . They've waited long enough, a few more weeks won't hurt... :-) .
Cheers

Are you using the academy tracks on your firefly?
if so they wont fit without extra links being added due to the M4A4s longer hull.
Personally i hate the DML 3 part sherman tracks!

Joe,
I was thinking of giving the Dragon three piece tracks with the Firefly a go. What do you not like about them, and what would be a ( cheapisch) alternative?
Cheers

I find them very fiddly, and time consuming to assemble. Due to the live track system on shermans indy link tracks are pretty much a waste of time, most kits have perfectly good one peice tracks in them.
I have a set that would work as replacements, PM me if you are interested
