Hi Guys,
I'd like to find out if anyone has come across a conversion set that can be used with Tamiyas humvee kit (I do have the italeri hummer m1025 kit but hear that Tamiyas is a great build) to make it an ambalance. I'm very inspired by the below photo as it'd be a great NATO/winter/weather porject...

Thanks all.

Academy has an Ambulance kit and Eduard has a photo etch set for it also. You can find them on Ebay from time to time.

Thats definitely an exact match to the photo with the exception of the front bumper grills which you can easily omit during construction anyway. Since its Academy, its probably going to be cheaper to do some kit bashing with it as oppose to doing it on Tamiya products.

I havent come across this model of Humvee on the Tamiya range and dont think they have one but if someone has seen it, please do correct me if im wrong.

Tamiya doesn't have a M997 HMMWV Ambulance kit. The Academy one is the only one available. I have built it and it is a pretty good kit. The ambulance portion is great. The base HMMWV is the standard Academy one, which is pretty good, not as good as Tamiya's new ones though. The Academy HMMWVs were the best on the market till Tamiya came out with their new ones. They still build up nicely and have some things Tamiya missed, like rivets on the underside. You could also combine the Academy ambulance pieces with the basic Tamiya M1025 HMMWV for a great representation of the M997 Ambulance.

You can order Academy ambulance kit really cheap from luckymodel.com. It is kit #AC 1352. A very good kit indeed! It comes with interior and accessories. ]

Great photo.
I'm working on the Academy Maxi Ambulance right now. The kit differs from the photo only a little. In the kit the generator exhaust comes out of the roof and not out of a recessed area. The mirrors are the single stalk mounted ones and the grill guard is different. I am using the "West Coast" mirrors from the Tamiya kit to do mine. The Tamiya grill guard is the same one as in the photo above, but I don't plan on have one on mine. The Tamiya grill guard will mount onto both the Academy and Italeri front bumpers without problem using the Tamiya grill guard mounts.

The only thing you would have to scratchbuild would be the aircleaner cover.

Good luck and post photos while in progress.

Don't get too wrapped around the axle about the brush guards. All of our HMMWVs have a few different versions. The one in your photo is made of approximately 1 inch angle iron except for the verticle supports on the inside. They use the mounting points already on the frame in the front. 2 bolts on bottom, and 2 take down pins on top.

Not sure what Academy M997 kit you have, but on mine, there is a recess in the side of the roof for the APU exhaust. It is not as pronounced or deep as in the picture, but it is there.

I got it when it first came out, I didn't know they updated it. It has the pipe just coming out the roof.

If they reissue it when they release their "IED", I'll pick another one up.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks guys for your replies. It's funny how one picture can encourage you to go out and buy a buy up for a future project. Your advise has set me on the right course

The aircleaner cover?

Are you talking about the white dome thing?

If you are, then that isn't the air cleaner cover. It's a satellite antenna kinda like the Qualcom antennas on 18 wheelers.
