After reading all your problems Henk , im not looking forward to starting mine now

I see your modelling "Carole" , there was an interesting article in military modelling giving the history of that particular Firefly from the Normandy landings until she was knocked out in Feb 44 by what was believed to be a German AT gun,

As a postscript to what Ian just noted, the article had some good B/W pics of Carole and others in the brigade
Cheers Henk and happy tackling of future Allied stuff. Remember we won! :-)

Hi Henk,

Wow 2 weeks off the big "A" and everybody is churning out great work.

Your progress photo looks PEtastic!! How do you attach the PE to plastic so clean? Unlike mine where I often super glue the PE to my figures... What's your secret??

Great job... BTW, Love the DUKW

I won't use the indy links,

Shame on you Henk! It's what you need to work off the tension, that nervous itch that can't be scratched that is one of the side effects of Shermanitis. I find it's a perfect way of getting through SWMBO's soaps on telly!

As for living with inaccuracies, I have come to terms with that... I try really hard to get references sorted and then realise half-way through a build that I've done something wrong/ stupid e.g the transmission housing on my firefly hybrid.
So it goes.

Thanks WC,

Attaching PE is not that difficult, just remember a few basics,

Don't apply glue directly from the tube/bottle.... put a small drop on a smooth surface, such as an old excacto blade or a CD, and use a needle or tooth pick to apply the glue. For really small parts, use thicker CA glue, pick the part up with tweezers, carefully touch it to the glue, position on the model. Leave a second for it to key, then with thin, runny CA, pick some up with needle, toothpick or such and touch the mating surface of part and model. Copila...capali... capilary action will draw the glue where it should go.
Tweezer and exacto blades where invented for a reason. Use them instead of your fingers. I don't touch PE parts with my fingers at all when glueing them.

Good luck

Monkeygun,

To be honest Ian, the kit is o.k. if you want to built a oob firefly that looks like a firefly. Make sure to double check the instructions, as Dragon made a real mess of some pieces. If you want an accurate Firefly, be prepared to do a lot of converting.. . With all the other kits available today, I would not go for this one, for one the latest Dragon kit has much better wheels etc..

Cheers

Doesn't The Bear have a great knack of telling you these things AFTER you have finished them? :-) :-) :-) . But seriously, I'm glad he pointed out the faults on mine.

And I'll be doing another Allied one soon Brad, after some medicinal Dunkelgelb... You can't beat a three tone camouflage..

Cheers

Blimey.
I posted a few pics of the 'about' finished model in the RRB, waiting to put a final few pics in this thread when she was done.
Searching back to find this thread, it's had 1500 hits.... I'm not sure if I should be flattered or scared... :-) .
All joking aside, thanks for your appreciation and help. I'm glad I pick a popular and interesting subject this time. I hope some of you have found some of my rambelings helpful or maybe even amusing..
Here's some pics of the final stage, at this moment I'm working on the base, after which I'll do the final weathering. And yes, the headlight and rearlights have been finished aswel..

Some more in my gallery

Thanks
Henk

yes! looking great henk! really grimy and mucky, nice mix of colours on the running gear makes it feel like it's been through more than one field full of mud...

It's definitely got that british feel to it do you get a free stiff-upper-lip with that kit ??

One quick question - what did you use to do the "handwritten" number on the hull ?? It looks very effective....I could use a technique like that....

looks great mate job well done!

Thanks Rick

Jon,

No stiff upper lip is included, but I hear rumours that the first DML 'British Army Officers' Gen II set will have photo etched Handlebar moustaches... .
The 'handwritten' number comes in the Archer dry-transfer set. So it's rubbed on, no carrier film to worry about. I don't use water slides anymore unless I really can't find a dry transfer or template to spray. I just ordered a 'Allied recognition stars' Template, as I have a feeling that I'll be needing it more in the future.. .

Cheers
Henk
