I just mail ordered Tamiya's M1025 kit. I heard it's a nice kit, but I want to build an Op Iraqi Freedom version. What updates does this kit need? I'm leaning towards an Army version rather than the Marines if taht helps any. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Try gtetting the Tamiya Modern Vehicle accessory set. It gives you CIP panels and stowage etc.

Depends on how far you want to go with it. Straight out of th ebox, with the added CIPs and gear from the accessory set will give you a basic M1025 in OIF. Take a look at the BLAST accessories to see how much you can add to it. They have everything from the newer Radial tires to side armor and new weapons mounts. MIG does an M1114 Uparmored conversion as well.
One other item that is incorrect in all HMMMWV kits on the market is the radio. They all come with the vehicle mounted PRC-77 radio that has not been used since the mid-'90s. Current radio is the SINCGARS and is available in resin by Pro Art.

The mirrors available in all kit are very crude, not accurate. Look for some reference pics on the net and you can scratch built them

Actually, the mirrors in the new Tamiya HMMWVs are very accurate. All HMMWV kits before these had old style mirrors on the pole mounts.

My bad Gino, you´re right! I meant that are old style mirrors. Sorry if I was confusing in my reply...
OK, here you got some pics of the mirrors, not exactly OIF, but just to show you how they are
Old style mirrors, like the ones on Revell, Academy and Italery kits
Actual mirrors HMMWV
hope these helps
best regards

Check the pics on the review at PMMS, the new Tamiya ones have the new mirrors. The older ones, very good examples by the way, also come in the kit to depict an older HMMWV.
M1025 Review at PMMS.
I have the M1025 and M1046 kits as well and can confirm they have the new mirrors.

I think Gino ought to quit screwing with us and start up his own AM garage company. He's got all the reference material in his backyard and all the knowledge in his head. He scratches tons of stuff for his clients. He's got his wife and kids. He's even got those new Lts that keep rotating in. These can be produced much more cheaply that the other guys.

Thanks, bit I didn't make any copies of the SEP parts. It was a one-off model. I'm sure DMLs SEP will be much better anyways. I usually don't make copies unless I know it is something I will need multiples of. Sorry.

You know that we're just all amazed by your scratch-built materials and your vast knowledge on AFV's- likely more knowledge than most AM companies have.
Well, SEP parts would still be nice b/c with the speed of DML coming out with the new modern stuff, I don't expect to see SEP model until 2007 (no offense to Vodnik). Anyways, patience, patience....
