The initial invasion would have been the time of the ausf E usage in Russia. Remember, there were only 223 of them made in 1938. They had already been surpassed by later marks coming from the factories by the start of Barbarossa.
There could be an oddball survivor lasting past the first year or two but that would be just coincidence. The later long gunned tanks were needed.

early 1941, the "F" came out in late 41 and I'm sure he "Es" were around until 42 or so, but by then they would have been obsolete as the long barrelled F-2's would have been fielded
