Yeah, i kinda lost interest, but now its back...
I didnt like the look of it, so i added a small dam ( EDIT, i typed in damn, lol ) type thing to prevent "creep"
any suggestions on weathering the wood?

It looks great! I had actually seen the progress post you had at Digital Dioramas and was impressed with the work there. What are the dimensions and your future plans?

Thanks for the comments
Matthew, the dimensions are 2feet by 1 1/2 feet.
i actually had a idea, when i was falling asleep. With the hill, i had thought that a Tiger would be going up the hill, since there is trouble in front, but i dont know yet.....
Klaus, I mix real dirt ( fine grinded up ) with Woodland scenic "realistic water", modge podge ( a type of glue ) and some small amount of water....
Cmon, more comments please

Hi Max,
Its a great dio you started here and i do feel its got alot of potential. Here are just some suggestions:
1) Weather your models abit more by applying a white wash onto it. Very few vehicles travelling through snow comes out that clean.
2) To put more texture into your snow, have you tried using either MMP pigment powders or baking soda?
3) Adding figures to the dio would bring more life to it and give it some character as well.
Hope to see more photos of this!

Hi Max, I remember your first posts on this build and it was lookin good. Could you possibly give us some more over-all pics to get a better feel for it ?
I know how hard it is to convey a feeling for a subject because when its in-progress most of the build is still in your head.
Don't worry about the wall, coat it to look like old lumber and dress it up with lots of ivy and shrubs [ it's there and permenent also not the main focus of your build, so move on ].
Concentrate on the rest of your lay-out.
Just a thought - lay everything out like I did on my project, take overall pics, wait for the feedback, move everthing around again, wait for comments etc.
Digest everything everyone said then build it your own dam - damn way [ just kidding ].
When I did it that way everyone had insights that either I missed or didn't think about.
However the suggestions I got from everyone were most helpful and the final lay-out was pleasing to me and those that posted suggestions.
Keep at it Max and post some more pics.

I really would like some input on the figures, I know one of them isnt historically correct, a Wermacht wearing a dot44, but i just wanted to try it out......
Any suggestions on how to make the figures any better?
and i think im going to add some more figures ....we'll see soon

Pretty impressive so far.Maybe some traffic MP's with a Schwimwagon or MC/sidecar on the inside corner of the turn.A horch with officers and maps at roadside. As above, the wall can be 'aged' with ivy and weathering. Please keep us posted!
cheers!

The positioning of the figures is good. The ground elevation is nicely done. I like the lead AFV.
My biggest comment is on the middle jagd. It is traveling over uneven ground and the road wheels are all in a straight line. The front road wheels would compress and the last two sets would extend. I know this is a really big conversion and not a fun one to do. It would really add a great wow factor to it though.

Max, thats better, now we can really rip it apart. [ kidding ].
What I did notice is you lost that really cool snow bank on the inside corner by the first Jad. That snow bank [ from your original pics. ] showed depth of snow and was pretty cool.
This is just an opinion but I would loose the middle Jad and throw in some type of logistic or a.a. vech. maybe even towed arty.
Overall it looks like it is coming along nicely, make sure you test work your snow finishing elsewhere before using it on the dio, it's one of the hardest ground covers to represent convincingly.
Oh and Scott what are you doing up so early ? l.o.l.

Hi there Max!!
It looks great and Huge friend!
I would suggest you add a few more trees!
It seems that their passing by a forest or something like that!So some more trees (pine trees maybe with snow on them) would give a nice look!
Also i can't see if you added wheel tracks and figure tracks!
especialy the one guy you placed on the snow would have left a nice foot track all along the road!
Generall it seems great!
Oh!aslo it might look good to add a Truck on the convoy!!
Have fun!
Cheers!

yeah, i was thinking muck in the road-
foot prints along side of the snow/road blending that in (people would be hugging the side if traffic was passing)
would anyone have any reason to have trekked thru the snow? deep leg prints would be good, if that's the case
MUD and ice muck on the tracks and under belly of the vehicles
water ( and ice bits possibly) from boots as the guys climb back up after walking round)
is that white smooth part where vehicles have been driving? is it water? if it's to be snow that's been driven on, "hard pack" should be a lot smoother. it doesnt have to be level, but fill in the brush swipes and go from there.
you might consider having some dead brown/ gold grasses come up thru the snow on the side of the road
(now i'm just looking out my window for ideas )
It's going to be an awesome scene when you're done!

Thanks for the input guys,
After i get the Barrier wall done, ill be moving on and adding dirt ALL over the diorama, after than, i get some dead grass and glue it down where the dead grass is going to be showing.
Any suggestions on on what to use for the dead grass? or maybe green grass?
Rick, im thinking of a 251, maybe a schwimwagen....
Harrison, Thanks hope your block breaks soon :-)
Scott, Thanks for reminding me! I'll be sure to fix that ASAP
cheyenne, i dont know what snow bank your talking about
George, im thinking Maybe a 251, Schwimwagen, then there is a chance of a opel
GI_Babycakes, It actually just wall plaster, im going to add a thicker coat of "Mud" so the tanks, foot prints and other things stick out more. It was more of a test type thing
Thanks for yor comments!

nooo, not green! it would have to be brownish or yellow. there is field grass that comes in a variety of colors ready made, or if you're in a pinch- an old, natural hair paint brush, with the bristles cut off to length would work nicely. (there is a feature written on this method on site). You can then paint the strands flat brown, gold, flat tan- whatever you have that looks like dead grass .i think it would look great!

foot prints, some abandoned equipment, little debris or rocks or a destroyed jeep or civilian vehicle (small)....
best regards and happy modelling

I suggest going to Great Models website and on the left click Manufacturers, then from the dropdownl list select figures, then Dragon/DML and viola! There is your list w/pictures. I'm not saying buy them there, but I go there frequetnly to "see" what I am interested in.

Hi Max, its looking good so far. I love the elevation and the size of it. nothing like a few afv's lined up in a column As for grass, GI Baby cakes gave you some good suggestions, but you could always look into the Heki wild grass and Silflor grass matts. They come in a great variety of colors and I'm sure you would find some nice dormant grass to suit your needs. As for figures. How many are you looking for? And are resin figures an option? If so you might check out
www.coloradominiatures.com they have a great selection of figs in winter gear...look at the Tank figures too they have some good ones. Other options that are real nice are royal models if you can locate them. They are carried by VLS and mission models I think. I hope this helps. Cheers Kevin
