Hi!
Im planning a little scene in 1/35 and Im looking for plans, pictures and drawings of railway cars used during WWII to transport jews and other persecuted people to koncentraition camps.
I know Ironside has a german box car type G10 but I dont know how suitable that kit would be? Could any of the Dragon kits be used?
Yes I know some of you might feel that this is a touchy subject and that it should be left alone, but please leave that discussion for another thread.

Well As far as transporting jews in railcars I don`t think the Germans were too picky about the railroadcars. As long as they could close it and were sure no jew would escape during transport it was fine with them. This may sound a bit harsh I know but I have read a load of reports from both sides (jews and germans) and the cars used were often just ordinairy cargowagons and cattlewagons.... I often heard the comparison between the 40&8 wagons used by the allies
The 40 & 8 stands for 40 man or 8 horses.
Above is what I believe to be a G10 railroadcar and that is more or less the kind of wagon in which the jews were deported and is often seen on pics of that black period.
Ironside has a G10 railroadwagon too.
Make sure that when you have a G10 and want to make it for a deportation dio not to forget the barbed wire in front of the little windows at the sides of each doors.

Thanks Robert for your help!
I did a search by google and came up with some pictures. Looks like the Ironside can be used, but I think I scratchbuild the boxcar using the kit as a guide.
Cheers

Hi Toke, The ironside kits are pretty good actually but the rails are a pain in the neck . I would sugest a set of Dragon rails it's the same gauge and will be easier old your blood pressure too. The problem is fit and flash with the ones in the G-10 kit. just IMHO

I have railcars of all the manufacturers and really the ironside railcars are of the worst ( plastic so delicated in the brakes) deformed. ( personal viewpoint)
but anyway maybe i have the poisoned apple
the light flatcars i scratching in a personalwagon to minimize the bad model
the rails.... the rails .... each one have very different rails: dragon, trumpeteer, ironside, cmk, tank workshop, verlinden ... i trash all the rails and make my own with styrene ( Ibeam, half round, strip )
i change the plastic wood for natural wood and looks better.
xcelent your idea of a military diorama with railcars ¡¡

Agreed! Will you be using the upcoming Trumpeter BR52 locomotive?

Cheers

TOKE
Friend of mine just returned from Germany stated that there is one such a wagon in the Berlin Technical Museum.
You should also visit the Holocaust display at the Imperial War Museum London but I'm not sure if this is still open now.
Regards, John-B
