hi everyone, need some help here......
.... based on the DML T34/76, can anyone recommend an engine set for the kit? so far i looked through the internet and found several resin brands such as Jaguar, CMK, verlinden, Maquette (plastic) but i've no idea on their build & quality.... or are there any other brands?
which is the better value for money
thanks all...

If you only wish to have a couple of hatches open, the maquette version is the best value for money, but will benefit from scratchbuilding pipes and cables. It does not include radiators, but these can't be seen if the engine hatch only is open. The cylinder heads often have sink marks and usually need filling too. If you want to show the whole thing then a more detailed set would be the route to go.

I agree with Ross. If you only want to open some hatches, use the Maquette one. But if you want to build a fully destroyed vehicle I would go for the resin ones.

but i've no idea on their build & quality...
Here are 2 links to some reviews (on Track Link) of the Jaguar set and the CMK set as well...

I think there may be some differences between the engine of the T34-85 and the one of the T34-76, but I'm no expert....

Early T-34 76s had a pancake air filter on top of the engine. I can't remember which model had the change. I think from the hex (43) turreted model on at least there were the two cartridge filters set in the transmission area. No air filters are included in the maquette kit that I can recall. If you are modelling the 40 or 41 model, the chances are you'd model the pancake filter, though I'm not sure about 42 models. Later 43 models and T-34 85s had the 5 speed gearbox and this has some differences with the transmission set up, mainly noticable by the position of whatever the thing is which sits on top of the gearbox casing which is not the starter motor (some kind of relay?)
The bulk-head/firewall between the engine and transmission would also have to be scratchbuilt with the maquette model if you want to show the whole rear panel removed or hinged down. Plus you'd need to scratchbuild the exhaust pipe to the rearmost panel.
If you don't want to scratch then get the CMK kit, which in UK is 6 times the price of the maquette kit.

okay... thanks for the replies ross, frenchy & jurjen...
.. as i want to open the rear panel and show the engine compartment as much as possible, guess the maquette kit is not an option anyway...
between the cmk and jaguar, they were made for itlaeri or tamiya kits, but i suppose they will fit the dragon kit as well?
...thanks for the review links frenchy, it helps....
p/s: anyway, this is what i had in mind...
+
wonder if they really fit?...hmmm..
cheers.

Hello moJimbo,
If you want your model to look like in the picture, then you need the transmission not the engine. CMK makes resin transmission for the T-34 or you can scratchbuilt one.
cheers
David

thanks david... i am considering the CMK3006 set, as in the first pic i posted.
anyway, in russian tanks aren't the engine & transmission in the same rear compartment ? and are your 2 pics from the same model? did you use the CMK 3006 as well?

Yo Mojimbo...
i think the tranmission and the engine were 2 separate things... i have the marquette set which i been lying aroung for the past 3 years (for future plan)...the details for marquette engine set are basic..since i plan to fit it into DML is-2 kit then some modifications were made.... i have a few reference photos of is-2 engine compartment... while i think the transmission can be scratchbuild..coem to my house i'll show you... hehe

Hello again
The T-34 transmission and engine are in separate compartment. The rear compartment house the transmission. The engine are located directly behind the turret.
Yes, the two pics are the same model. I scratchbuilt the transmission from various scrap parts and sheet styrene. I'm building the 1:35 Dragon Russian T-34 model 1941 (T-34/76 mod.41)
Cheers,
David

ahhh... so that's how it is!
...being used to german tanks with engine at the back and transmission at the front, the russian tanks' interior layout is quite different! .....well, learned something new today.... :-)
so the CMK kit contains only the transmission.. but the jaguar kit (below) seems to have BOTH the tranmission and engine ....hmmm..
...had anyone here tried the Jaguar set?

Hello,
I have never built one, but the ARMO T-34 engine looks amazing. It includes the transmission and consists of 33 resin and 203 etched brass parts. Price from jadarhobby.com is $30.22. It is available in an early (Armo 35524) and late (Armo 35519) version.
Regards,
Erol

hi zaidi (lama cuti raya?)...
so, you're going to use the marquette engine and scratchbuilt transmission... is it easy to scratchbuilt? looks pretty complicated to me... ...let me know when you're done..?
didn't know your'e building an IS-2... is it the DML kit? any good?
thanks...

hi Erol... at $30++ the armo kit is more expensive, though maybe of better quality, than the Jaguar kit... which i looked up at greatmodels for only $21++
however, the jadarhobby.com site is quite interesting: plenty of items, prices not bad either... do they really give 22% discount to non-EU customers??

Yes ..... All EU addresses have to pay the full price, and outside the EU get it tax free(?). If you check sites like Hannants ... they always show 2 prices .. in the EU and export.

i think it's not that hard to build...i used stock plastic and unused parts...
the project started in 2001 and still not finshed...
the DML is-2 is a nice kit to me...but as with other DML is-2 family kits, there're problem with the lower and bottom hull join. u have to raise the bottom hull about 2 mm so that the track and return roller can be fitted.
that ARMO kit was my first intention but due to the price, i go for Marquette kit...

I take it you can get just a transmission kit. That looks like the way to go if you want to have something opened up a bit. Enjoyed the pics and got some great ideas
