Hi again!
The building ruin has now got a layer of DAS pronto and a layer of correction fluid. On that, nothing but pastels have been used. Not a single drop of paint! I made the floor using Keith´s Diamond Tips (hehe) and I got the look I wanted. I even burned the floor a bit.
All the detail parts are still missing, this is just the "torso" of the building.
The amount pf rubble is always the question. I was thinking about adding a whole fallen roof section or floor in this dio, but I don´t like the idea of overdoing it and distracting the eye from the main subject, the sniper.
The next thing will be to decide what kind of setting to use in the room. Perhaps the sniper placed some damaged furniture to make his watch more comfortable...As the ceiling is stripped, I´s still possible to add rubble in the upstairs too, to suggest damage to the roof. Of course, the snow will tie this whole thing together!
Rubble, made of DAS pronto. Snap a piece off, crack with a hammer. Cheap and good-looking!
Thanks for all your feedback! Keep it coming...
Toni

All these snipers hidden in ruined buildings. All looking so good.
My fingers start tingling to build one of these, too !
Nice project, Toni. Your floor looks convincving !

Thanks Jan, and you can think of this as some kind of achievement: many modellers building the same theme simultaneously!
As I look at the other works, there is great reseblence but each one is some kind of unique, each one carried out in a different way. Of course, a bombed building looks quite similar in all cases but so do the reference photos. You can´t tell from a photo of a ruin where it was taken. Now I understand better the point of including something "special" in the scene, basically there are not too many natural approaches to a theme like this. Ok I can put a cow downstairs but where would it take my dio? Yes. A joke. (I saw a photo of a bombed building with a cow downstairs, though. What do the Rules say about animals in this case? )
I´m still open to suggestions with my dio. I´m thinking about a broken red couch the sniper sits in... Anybody ever scratchbuilt one? #:-)
Are there articles in this site about making furniture?
Cheers, Toni

Very nice - I absolutely love it. Simple, not overstated, nice weathering. Great job.

I believe the rules say only one person in the dio, but animals are okay. I, for one, am curious on how you'd work a cow in, but I am confident you could do it make it look good... maybe even logical

Damn Toni... that's not a ruin. It's a piece of art.
Well done.
I am very happy to see our diorama forum really taking off with this dio campaign. Jan get's a special nod for proposing this excellent idea. And Keith's donation of contest prizes has certainly added fuel to the fire.
Cheers,
Jim

Toni,
I was looking at the images of the ruin more and wanted to suggest that a partial section of roof (a very small remaining portion) would be nice. Bare and flat top sections always bother me for some odd reason.
Cheers,
Jim

Jim,
I'm no demolitoin expert, but the roof is generally the first part to go when the going gets tough. I refer to the picture from Bosnia I inserted halfway this post : the roof is all gone, while the walls are damaged - but still standing. A European type rooftile is made of baked clay, weighing somewhere between one and four pounds each. There's many hundreds of those on any given roof. It doesn't take a miracle to make those tumble down when the roof structure checks out...

I started to paint the sniper. Here´s the result of two hours work. Face is finished with oils, and boy does he look arrogant and mean! Nothing else except the head is finished. Dragan here also shows the benefits of scratchbuilding. You just don´t get poses like this OTB...
Thanks for the support everybody! It makes the building part even more enjoyable!
And yes, I will add a roof section in there. Tips for making a broken couch, anybody?

Yeah that look really like on arrogant bastard very very good
the building also looks very good.
I also agree with you that the better or cooler poses never come out of the box like that
About the broken couch maybe you have to look at the End of Yourney thread while the cushions look very good maybe you could make the cushion from putty or whatever and I don`t think that scratching a frame or something for that should be a very big problem

Hi Toni,
Dont' forget to put in a bottle of Slivowic. The stuff tastes like white spirit, but the 'Slavs sure love it! I tasted the stuff once, but I had the stale taste in my mouth for two days!

I agree with Golikell there is nothing better when it`s cold than a bottle of Slivowic. Take one glass and the holes start to burn in your body. One of the best things that can happen on a cold night having watch

Ok you sold me the idea of including a bottle of Sliwowica in the scene.
Just a question: I found some labels in the web, but which one to use, which is from the ´40 era?
Of course, I can create my own "white label" Sliwowica...

They're both from Poland but in this scale that does not mattter, just that I would take the black and white one, as colour printing was not really hot then. They probably both taste just as horrible!
Posted: Monday, November 25, 2002 - 11:57 PM UTC
Yep I would go for the black and white one too.
mostly the Slivowitz was made in smaller distilleries wich actually didn`t had money for a expensive colour press.

Sliwowic is Polish. RAKIA would probably b emore fitting. Voilà.

I believe Slivowitz is been drunken all over eastern Europe
If you`ve read the book "partisans" from I believe Collin Forbes (might have it wrong on the Author) there is some reference that the yugoslavian partisans during WW2 were big slivowitz consumers
off course that doesn`t mean that rakhi wasn`t drunk probably the yugoslavian people drunk their national drink as much or even more than the Slivowitz
