Model Master makes an Italian Sand colour that is quite nice. I use it as the base and then add chips afterwards with a gun metal colour.

If you can get the Italeri/Zvezda offering instead of the Tamiya one, do so. It is a bit better (still not great, but better). Right Folgore?

i agree with Adam and Nic i recently build two italian tanks .
I airbrushed them totally matt black first and then in the Humbroll 93 color .
Washed them with burnt sienna oils and chipped it with metal color humroll 53 .
Add some goodies on it and had a very fine result .
The prizes of these Zvezda kits are cheap .
So let them come !!!!!!
good luck on your models ..

Yeah, everything I have read has said the Zvezda kits are better. Probably best of all is that there are no motorization holes in the Zvezda kits. The Zvezda kits are old and leave much to be desired, but like Eric says, they're cheap, and there are aftermarket sets out there to fix them, if you so desire.
