I know the DML has the best kits on the market now, and I know the shape of the Tamiya Tiger 1 turret they say is incorrect, but that aside, are the Tamiya Tiger 1 and KT kits that bad?

The Tiger is allright, and they were the best for a while, but with the new DML ones, it would be best just to go with them. The KT's are actually pretty good, but I really don't know how accurate they are.

The only problem with the Tamiya T1 kits , especially the "late" Tiger is they lock you in to a certain feature "package". By this I mean that the late Tiger does not give you the turret roof options between "late" and "final" for one thing. The turret looks very out of scale when compared to the AFV or DML, and the obvious lack of asymmetry is now a real issue. With the release of the DML line, these kits just can't compete with the variations that DML offer to allow the modeler to pick out individual vehicles from references, and build them OOB.

Hi Sam,
I'm a beginner, I haven't built this kit, but I find tamiya kits very user friendly , very well documented.
The experts probably don't like them because they are too straightforaward and don't give as many options.
The figures are crap too
So I would definetly give it a go!

Just go for it,you wont believe how easy these kits go together, trust me iv built quite a few over the years.
which kit is it you have?initial, early, mid or late.if its the late Tiger you will need to add zimmerit paste to it,by using some sort of putty or using cavallier or atack resin zimmerit.
if you need any more help just ask.
cheers karl

Thanks ropi and karl. I have already looked the instruction manual and fit some parts here and there, and yes, it is very user friendly and it fits perfectly. Now i have to gather up my courage and start building. And the one i have is the Late type.

Hey Samuel ... give the Italeri Tiger a go first, if you really are uncomfortable. Should be the cheapest ... simplest also .. comes with link and length tracks and pre-cast zimmerit. May not be the best kit in town, but it looks like a tiger. Buy a tamiya zoom set of PE for the grills and itīll look the part. All the practise building, painting and weathering, will give you the confidence for your Tamiya and add to the enjoyment. Just an idea.

I rather like the tiger late myself The figures are crap I got to agree but. My LHS didnt know the diffrece bettween it and the old motorized one. So I bought one for $16.00 when they were the best. Obviously I got another as fast as I could . And the rest is VLS aftermarket to fix. And I think it's a good kit especialy the tracks they fit great I havnt tried the dragon kits though I have one in my stash.

Tamiya kit will be fine. They are straight forward builds. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine. As for the Zimmerit. It is a bit daunting. I would strongly recommend you getting the Cavalier version. Costs around $20 bucks and get the Tamiya version and you will find it goes on real easy. It's already preshaped. JUst cut it out and glue it on. Just don't build the whole model. Areas to hold off on will be the otside of the turret, back plate and anything on the sides of the upper hull.
