Sitting here this morning remenising about my service on tanks in the 60's and remembered a story I heard about this transmission. For you who are unaware, the allison allows an mbt to pivot completely around in its on lenght. This occurs when the transmission is placed in neutral and steered left or right. One track, drives in the direction selected and the other track drives to the rear thus forcing the tank to turn on it's own center of axis. This manuver is reffered to as neutral steer. Now the story goes that the guy who designed the transmission couldn't figure out why it did it and went nuts trying to. Or so goes the legend. #:-)
