Hi, I happened to pick up Trumpeter's new kit of their SAM-6 AA carrier this past week end, and even though I don't ususally do the modern stuff, I found that I was drawn to it for some reason, maybe just for that 'something different' sort of thing to do. Plus, for under $20, it was kind of hard to turn down.

So far I've managed to put the hull of the kit pretty well together and have found it a really nice model. Up to par with the rest of this company's quality kits that are sold for a real good price. There's also a PE sheet included to add some really small parts to it here and there. The only thing I'm doing different is adding brass grab handles instead of the plastic ones, as I can never get a good clean cut while removing those things from the spures, so to save the aggravation, I'd just as soon make my own.

I found there is some occasional flash--no big deal to remove-and the parts are a little heavy on the moldings in certain areas, at least when compared to the Drgaon Pz. IV I'm also working on. Now I'm sure there are all kinds of inaccuracies to it as far as the rivet counting crowd is concerned, but for builders like myseslf, who build most all of our kits simply OOTB, without any concern for the 'perfect' model, I find it a quite enjoyable kit to build.

Anyway, just thought I would post a short note on this kit if anybody out there is thinking about picking one of them up in the future.

Thanks and take care, Sgirty

Thanks for the quick review Larry... I was also thinking of SAM-6 as something unusuall and would like to build it real soon.

Hi, After fooling around with this d----- camera, I finally got a couple of photos of this model as it stands so far. It's in the 'my photos' section.

It appears that what with my less than average picture taking skills and the light grey of the plastic I had one heck of a time getting something, or someplace, where it didn't have a washed-out effect to it.

Take care, Sgirty

I've found that shooting my models with as small a aperature diameter (large number--inverse relationship aperature # to actual diameter) as possible will avoid the flash wash out. I can even shoot white plastic models and not get the over exposed look. Just a thought and something to look into if you have aperature control settings on your camera. Though I had a look at yours and frankly they aren't that bad...

I got tired of waiting for my order from VLS Corp - and went to the local hobby shop and bought one this afternoon.

I must say it's impressive looking upon first inspection. This looks like a fun one to build...

Okay, I bought one too. Did not want to commit to anything but I will make an effort to get a review together and sent to someone who can post it before the weekend.

Guess I just content scouted myself...

I've got one as well, and other than one problem really like it. I got mine about 3/4ths built up at a club build day last weekend.

Price, subject, overall quality are good except I got a short shot on one missile body half so that the last 1/2 inch or so on one side is missing at the exhaust end.
It's not a huge deal, a little tubing and some putty and I figure I can rebuild the missing area, but it's sort of a hassle I'd not planned on.

Anyone else have this problem?
I also got incompletely molded wheel hubs in my Sturmer Emil. Is it just me or does Trumpeter have some quality control issues to work out?

Mike
