I did a sherman before so i guess i would count as a sherman whore but your one is definitely looking alot better than the one i did.
I would soot up the tip of barrel a bit and rust up the tow cable abit more so its not too shiny.

Hey Karl,
it's looking good- some nice subtle weathering going on
I'm a bit confused though- is your model based on references? I only ask coz I'm not sure if M4A3s would have that type of track on the turret as I think it was a British style and a couple of the packs on the turret look British also.
On the other hand, its a sherman and anything could happen. Anyway, maybe I should get out more :-)
Going to get more coffee!

Quick question: what color (brand) do you use for the wood handles on the entrenching tool?

The tracks i placed on the turret are from the kit,as am not using them i have orded a new set from Accurate Armour.dragon have included the tracks from there firefly kit, track pads for the British style rubber chevron and steel chevron links.why i dont know.

yo dogload, now that you have mentioned the british look,i have come to the fact that this sherman might be a british sherman after all.when i first painted it a few weeks back i done it in olive green with a black camo the tank was from the 12th Armored div.then i stripped all the paint off and started again as i did not like it.
i dont think the yanks ever used red numbers with white outline on there shermans,so hence this could be british, plus the fact it has no stars on the tank.
i need to look this up
cheers karl

Hi Karl I wouldn't be so hasty- maybe change the numbers to US style. Us Brits didn't use the M4A3 in action, as far as I know. Of course, there's bound to be some evidence to the contrary somewhere

Hi,
You may need to think about the number, but the tracks are fine. Spare tracks where used as added Armour, and in practise they would use any tracks they had, rubber or steel; Sherman, Churchill or even German ones. I've seen photo's of different Chevroned tracks being used. When you use the Accurate Armour tracks, you'll have some lengths left which you can use as added armour on the front glacis.
Coming along nicely, and the weathering is indeed nice and subtle.
Cheers
Henk

I have one suggestion regarding the spare tracks on the turret. Add some more rust and weathering on them. They were not painted like the rest of the tank and without movement, they rusted and weathered quite quickly.

HI Karl:
Dogload is correct in that M4A3s were never used by the UK in action. They were sendt 12 or so of the 75mm gun tanks but they were only used in trials in the UK.
A US unit that used bands around the barrel was the 1AD, later in the war as they came up thru Italy. I've seen the white outlined nos. too (although I don't recall if they were filled w/red). Just stick with it as an American tank. Historically, you're better off -- don't do a Commonwealth/UK one.

Before you put on the track, paint the running surfaces of the idler and return rollers a burnished steel colour. After about 30 feet of running, there was no more paint left on those parts, just bare metal.

In Concord's book "Sherman At War" It has a pic of the tank with markings you are building The photo in the book shows no spare tracks on the turret It has the rubber chevron tracks It also has the split loaders hatch Does your model have the split or oval loaders hatch?
I am not trying to nitpick Hopefully what I typed is a big help to you Overall I really like your model

Like it Karl!
Think that the light dusting blends well. As for the numbers, I know that some of the 70th tank battalion used red # with with outline, but not sure on their use of M4A3(76) ...
Query on the headlights- Did you paint over the lenses OD? What I'm saying is that one has to break up the monotony (forgive me Shermaholics;) of OD wherever possible... As Jazza said re the towcable, it needs to be toned down. Looks like you need to use a gunmetal color (a lot darker) and then some rust on it...
Cheers
Brad
