I have a King Tiger turret that was painted with enamels and acrylics. Can anyone suggest the best way to strip this down to the bare plastic to repaint?

Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Spray it on heavily, then seal it up in a plastic container or Ziploc baggie. Let it sit overnight and rinse off with water in the morning. It will be stripped down to the plastic and ready for a fresh coat of paint.

I've used nail varnish remover to good effect in the past, though this works better on smaller objects like figures. Pour enough into a container to completely immerse the part, allow to soak and the paint should blister up and peel off. An old stiff brush is handy to pry paint from recesses. Runse under the tap, allow to dry and you're ready to paint.
It might be an idea to practice on some scrap first, in case the remover affects the plastic. The stuff I've used in the past seems OK - it is alcohol based and will evaporate. 3M computer cleaner will do just as well.
