Hi all

Thought I might get your opinion on the groundwork in my latest dio.
The groundwork is not quite finished yet, nor is the Dragon Flammpanzer but I'm almost there.. I still have to add my figures as well.

Regards
Glen

Nicely done and quite interesting... lots of techiniques and materials were used here, this is obvious. The finished peice will entire viewers to look for a long time at the multiple fine points (water, rocks, weeds, etc). Good work!

Thanks for your feedback everyone and thanks for the welcome. Have seen some really talented people on here!

For the groundwork I used Mix-It paper mache which I believe is the same sort of thing as Celluclay in the US.
Just mix with water and slap it on over the styrene shaped ground.
Painted with Raw Umber and then Tamiya Flat Earth.
The ground is a mixture of long and short grasses, reeds and rubberised horsehair.
The bridge is made from balsa and basswood.

Thanks for looking.

Overall I like your groundwork very much and only have one suggestion. I would add a few clumps of grass to the middle of the road. I am also assuming that you are going to weather the bridge. It needs signs of wear and tear.

I really like the ground work, and I like the idea that marty said about adding a little grass to the middle of the road. I would suggest adding a couple of trees or a hedgerow to give the dio some height. Keep us posted.

Welcome mate
And in addition to what Marty and Brian have suggested, the grass in the centre of the track/road could be accentuated by being on raised dirt, leaving the ' wheel grooves' to each side (Maybe too late! Future dio perhaps;)
As for the bridge, it looks great but I think that a timber finish would set the scene better. Ignore me if that is just an undercoat... :-) I like
the groundwork also, but think the longer brown grass stems should all be in the creek and its' banks, not up at ground level.
Keep the good work chooglin'!
Cheers
Brad

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.

Marty..I have added some grass to the middle of the road and yes the bridge will be weathered more. Thanks

Very beautiful ground works. I like what you did with it. I'm just curious about the bridge...like, where is it anchored or how is it supported. It looks like it would fall if a large vehicle passed over it --- hey, don't get me wrong...its just a question not a suggestion...

Overall it looks fantastic

Hi, Glen. Your groundwork looks very convincing. I particularly like the faded colour scheme which makes it look like a long hot summer. And the road looks great too.

I would second the idea of building up some soil and grass in the middle of the road.

Also agree with Arvin that the bridge needs some support, though it might be too late for that.

I would also track lots of dirt and soil across the bridge. Most wooden bridges on dusty or muddy tracks look like the road runs right across it. There might even be weeds growing between the planks.

Thanks again for the feedback guys.

Arvin, the theme of the finished dio will be whether or not this (foot) bridge will support a halftrack so you are on the money with your observation.

The bridge still has to be weathered and some more long grass added.

Hope to finish it soon.
