Just a couple of pics showing some further in progess work on the "Which Way" dio.
If you're interested, here is the link containing (Part One) pics of the dio.
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/63302&page=1
The theme of the dio is a group of US troopers are confused as to which way they should go to get to the front lines. The group from the M8 Grey Hound believes the right way is to cross the bridge, the Sherman crew believes they should not. Once the dio is completed the Sherman will be sitting on a dirt road, with a broken off road sign nearby adding to the confusion as to which is the right way to go.
At this point, the Verlinden cast bridge has been placed/glued on the pink styrofoam base, as has the rock cliff work. Woodland Scenics model railroad talus, rock, and road bed gravel provide the landscaping materials. The groundwork and foliage is held in place with yellow carpentars glue diluted in water. Once this mixture dries, everything is rock hard.
Most of the Verlinden figures are painted at this point, and trial placement of these figures around the base is now an on going experiment. There is one more figure to do -- a tanker positioned in the open turret hatch of the Sherman.
Comments are appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to look.
An over all view of the bridge, rock cliff, and dried stream bed.
A closer view of the Verlinden plaster cast arched bridge and groundwork.
The rock cliff work set in place and landscaped.
Not a very good pic, but just an experiment with figure placement on the dio. The concept being the Sherman crew is pointing "That away", and the Grey Hound crew thinks they should be crossing the bridge instead.
A little closer view of the potential figure placement around the Grey Hound.
Possible figure positioning of some of the Sherman crew troopers.

Good progress Steve, Your figures look really nice too as usual. What will you be using for water?

What will you be using for water?
Lord Kiwi, ---- originally I had intended to have a very small water flow under the bridge, near the rock face side of the dio, with the rest of the stream bed mostly sandbar, similar to what we see around here when it starts to get dry during the summer (that is, a good portion of the stream/river bed is semi dry and exposed). However, after applying the riverbed rock and sand, I'm not sure the artificial water will flow through the river bed dio like I had orginally planned, so I may just go with the dried up look as it is now, or I may try the water. The problem is, once the water is applied,--- it can't be removed, so if it did not flow properly through the riverbed, the whole dio is ruined. The jury is still out on this piece.

Great looking dio so far. Steve, as far as the water goes why dont you seal it up and try a little real water on it ti see where it flows to. That way you wuill be able to see where the resin water would end up and with the base sealed all you would have to do is pour the water off and let it dry. It would be a well worth it and easy experiment. cheers Kevin

That's gonna be a cool dio when you finish it. Your figures, vehicles, and ground work all look very good.

Steve I agree with Kevin seal it up then run some real water over it to see where it goes. You could also try using Future to give the reiver bed a "wet" look as if there is a small flow of water.

Steve,
I like the look of the Tanker leaning on the front of the Sherman; kind of like "C'mon LT, flippin' figure out where we're going so we can get there! Forget the 'Grunts, let's GO!"
And the dio looks good without water. If you can get it right with what ever method you decide, it would probably look even better with water.
Very nice. One of these days I'll get my dio's going............................................................

Steve
Coming together nicely!
Have to say the fig. selection is spot on! Was a question of having figures first, then worked dio idea around them, or figures bought later to suit idea?
Witht the missing track guard front RHS, would that bucket jump around like the blazes or what?
If keeping the creek dry, why not make a putty lizard on the creek bed with its head cocked to the side, seemingly looking at the kafuffle...
Just a thought!!
Cheers,
Brad
