Hey all!

i started the monster! Meet the beginning of "Niamh" (pronounced KNEE-iv)
The day was spent shaving H-beams into C-beams and sanding them smooth. Monotonous, but, neccessary. I also started the crossmember/bolster pin assembly. Here's some pics.

The front truck

The frame pieces

And the crossmember/bolster pins

More tomorrow, I'm sure. Back to the Basement!

Well, I had a little bit of time to model today so I wrapped the bolsters, like this.

And dropped em on the trucks for a fit check. Looks pretty good.

I had to transition the side frame so there was a drop. I cut some matching material and dryfitted them,

Cleaned up the edges and re-dryfit,

Here's the side frames full on view (dryfit)

So, that's my progress this weekend, not much. But, as they say, Slow and easy wins the race!

Thanks Chad-o!
What kinda sucks is I'm not going to be able to take too many pics because the camera I had moved to Arkansas and the camera I use now is only avail. on certain weekends, because it belongs to my girlfriend's work.
So, the next pics you will see, it will be very much farther along in the project.
I still have to do the whole undercarriage and floors before I can do anything resembling the armor and structure.
So, I'll have to post the description of progress until new pix are available to take.
To bed!

Well, I did some work today on "Niamh" and the frame is assembling nicely. I patterned and cut 8 Z-shaped, re-enforcing plates and sliced about 100 bolt heads. Ahh, but it reeks of good fun!!
I swear I'll have more pix tomorrow (well, I don't swear...) and I'll post them as I take them, of course. Cheerio

Okey-dokie, I took some new shots of my progress. In actuality, I had to halt progress while I waited for a camera. I want this whole build in pictures!
So! Where were we? Ah yes, here we are!

We left off with pictures of my frame pieces and here we have them assembled with the bolster and pin assembly attached.

I started cutting the floor decks out of .005 aluminum. It won't be the only layer, but it lays flat and I can remove it from the frame and work on it separately as it progresses.
Here are the floor deck first layers.

Well, I guess it's back to work!
Cheerio!

When I looked at your 1st post that had your drawing of this, I had agreed with "Guntruck" that this has Resident Evil written all over it. Man! I don't know much about train scales, but if this size you are working has the ability to move -this would be an awesome sight whipping around the Christmas Tree defending the presents! :-) Very interesting.
