It's a GW I site, but I think they didn't buy that much modern stuff between 1991 and 2003, so maybe this will help....

The Iraqi Army had a considerable array of tanks, mostly purchased from the former Soviet Union. Chief among these were about 500 T-72's. These modern Soviet tanks were armed with an excellent 125mm smoothbore weapon and had many of the same advanced features found on the Abrams. Despite it's advanced design, the T-72 proved to be inferior to the M1A1's deployed during the Gulf War, and compared more closely with the older M60A3 tanks used there by the US Marine Corps. In addition, Iraq had a number of earlier Soviet models: perhaps as many as 1,600 T-62 and about 700 T-54, both of which were developed in the 1960's. These tanks were widely regarded as clearly inferior to the Abrams, but were expected to be highly reliable mechanically. The Gulf War provided military tacticians with an opportunity to evaluate developments in tank design that had not been available since World War II.

according to an article in Finescale they had a few M1A1's as well

yeah I read about that somewhere... something with having not enough spare parts, so they couldn't use them to the fullest or even at all...

Don't always be so negative and sure of things you may not know about.

Yes they did have 2 M1A1s w/o DU armor. During the Iran-Iraq war, in the mid-1980's, Iraq was our quasi-ally. We were supplying them with arms. As part of this, we sold them 2 M1A1's with original M1optics and fire control systems. The Iraqis put T-72 optics and fire control sytems and some other parts onto them. They called them Lions of Babyl or something to that effect.. The tanks fell into disrepair and were not used in either ODS or OIF because we were not supplying them parts. The 2 tanks were found in Baghdad by 3ID and taken back to the US in late '03.

There was an old article in FSM that showed pics of them as well.

The Iraqi's actually did have quite a bit of US equipment. Most of it was unuasble though due to lack of parts. They did have lots of M113s and M901 ITOWs that were stil usable and I saw many of them destroyed along the roadside as I moved to Baghdad during the invasion. They also had 2 BNs of M109A3s and a Company of M60A1s that were stolen from the Kuwaitis during ODS as well. None of these saw action in OIF though.
