This is the DML M4A3 VVSS sherman, this is my first sherman build :-)

i painted the sherman in Tamiya acrylics, and the weathering was done with oils and mig powders.did not bother with the kit tracks so i brought Accurate Armour tracks which were a bit of a pain to get right but got there in the end.
i also have a DML firefly in my stash now,so looking forward to building that in the near future.
would like some comments from you shermie builders, just to give me some tips on my up and coming firefly build .

still have 2 more tank crew to paint then i can add them on the tank.

cheers karl.

Great looking Sherman Welcome to the sickness that is known as "Shermanitis" :-) You may wish to paint OD on the siren where it is silver How are those AA tracks to deal with?
Also, does the kit come with a muzzle brake for the barrel?

Hey Karl,

i'm right now very busy with the painting of my DML Firefly.

Nothing special to mention, it's a very fun build.

Here are some pic's, just tell me what you find about it.

It would appear you have most of the basis covered. The stepped barrel is gone, packs are not hanging in thin air on the turret sides and the ejection port is blended. Nice looking Sherman. The red stripes on the barrel are a nice touch

Watch out! Once you do one Sherman its easy to get hooked! I did Tamiyas M4 last spring and now I have the Sherman bug!

I like your model. Nice subtle weathering which is how I do most of my models too.

All I can add is to perhaps rust up the spare tracks on the turret sides?

Again nice job. I think its probably my next project.

It sure does. You get an aluminum barrel with a seperate thread protector cap and a normal plastic barrel that comes in 2 halves. I am pretty sure that the intructions say to use the muzzle brake on the plastic one.

Does any one know its possible to use it on the aluminum barrel?

Looks pretty good. One additional thing I noticed is the tail lights. The left side should have the top oval (crescent) cutout in red. The lower one should have one thin horizontal black line for the blackout position marker. On the right side, the top should have one short, thin horizontal black line for the blackout stop indicator, below it in the lower portion, should be one thin horizontal black line for the blackout position marker as well.

Kind of hard to make out, but you can see what I mean here.

Looks good overall. Good job.

Yes you can. The plastic brake is used on the aluminum barrel in the "Irzyk" kit.

Hi Karl ,
Nice looking Sherman . I am particularly intrigued with the barrel markings , are they "kill marks " or do they serve another purpose? They certainly brighten the vehicle , would expect that is not a good thing with camouflage .
I think I would pick this marking option just because it is colourful for a sherman .
Again nice work

I do believe those barrel markings are tactical markings the 1st armored division used in Italy

Hey Chad ,

Wouldn't the Red stick out ?? Sort of exhibitionists camoflage :-) :-) :-) :-)
I thought the last thing you would want to do is paint big red rings around your gun ?
It makes a change to the monotone markings of most shermans & in no way would I say it isn't appealing .
Love Jenny

Hey Karl
Seems your 1st Sherman is better than my first Panzer... Never built one!
Have just started this kit myself, so happy to see a final result.
One thing on the horn guard, was there a central bar that ran down the lower centre oevr the front of the horn? If not I think there should be... The bottom half shold look like cricket stumps
:-)
cheers
Brad
P.S. To Jenny. Some tank battalions like the 37th and 70th also had lots of colour by way of large stars, tactical numbers, and even cartoons/charicatures on the tricolour Armoured division markings...
