Does anyone know why the germans favored limited traverse mountings on many of their tanks such as Jagd-Tiger/Panther? Was it more economical to produce these or what? Did it offer better armor protection?

I read somewhere that they could fit a larger gun on the same chassis compared to the tank and that they could produce 3 tank destroyers for every 2 tanks.

As Gary said , by dispencing with a turret you can mount a larger main gun on a chasis.
Plus as the war progressed Germany was fighting mainly a defensive war , where they could use tankhunters with there large caliber guns in prepared ambush positions.
