G'day from oz
I am posting this on main stream as i have not had much of a reply on our community forum.
I recently brought the Mr Models M88A1 interior conversion as one of my suppliers was selling it cheap and would like to know if anyone has done it and how did it go as i have heard that it be difficult. I have borrowed the MM in Review book on Recovery vehicles and it is pretty complex.
Also as i can buy the P/E sets at wholesale prices is it worth getting them.
Comments please
Thanks
Andrew

I have done the AEF Designs interior for the M88, should be the same vehicle inside. Mine had a lot of warped resin pieces but it fleshed out the interior very nicely. I might be able to find a reference book for some pictures if you e-mail me your address.

If you need M88A1 interior photos, check out my motor pool located here at this site. Go into the old gallery via the link in my signature below. There are even photos of the M88 with the nose removed and the main winch being worked on.

Andrew,
I got the MR interior set back when it first came out. It went in the hull pretty good with no problems at all. It is way better than the AEF kit from what I hear since I've never seen the AEF kit in person. You should have no problems. As far as the photo etch set, go for it, it has sme nice stuff in it that will dress up the kit. I even think that it has changed a ittle bit since it first came out, but don't quote me on that.

I got MR interior for M88A1... Started it but haven't gotten very far as I was thinking of putting LEDs to iluminate the interior; somehow it was too much for me to handle at the time and I stopped. Anyway, there are loads of parts in the box and it should build well. Sabot's pics in his Motorpool gallery are well worth checking out; those are the best reference for M88 on the internet.

I'll be really interested in following your progress. I also have the MR Models interior, but haven't started the kit. Looking it over, it seemed OK, but you really can't tell until you actually start putting things together.

I've been wanting to do this kit for some time but I'm in the middle of the 1/350 Missouri for the Dreadnought Campaign, and I'm betting I'll need every day to finish. This kit is definintely in my top 5 "next up" from my stash. :-) :-) :-)

Hi Andrew,

the AFV Club M88A1 with MR interior is on my work bench.

The following difficulties were encountered:

1. The engine oil filters in the back will not fit, if assemblied by the instruction. Thre height must be reduces otherwise the upper hull will not fit. Rhis in consequence requires to reduce the length of the embossed sheets inside of the left and right side doors.

2. The hydraulic covers at the front, left and right, have to be changed in so far that depressions or channels must by cut. Otherwise the carriers for the driver's and assistant driver's seats won't fit.

3. All of the handles for the seats are missing with the instructions not mentioning it.

4. The cal .50 ammo rack must be assemblied with plastic strips not provided.

5. To my assessment the radio appears to big and was replaced with an extra one from my spare parts box. Recommended Academy M113A2 part.

Other than that it's an interesting set requiring a lot of individual improvements.

I'm in the final "production run" adding the small parts of the AFV Club kit, that will break, if not cut with a razor saw.

A helpful hint: Try to grab the Ordnance Special of the M88A1 without you'll lose control.

Cheers
