Hi There,

I generally build figures mainly. I have the Academy Merkava MK III with the Eduard Photo-etch set and getting ready to start. Are there any major gotcha's with the kit that I should be looking out for?

Except for the PE I plan to build it OOB unless there's something glaring that I should do, I'm not up for any major conversions just to make a nice model of the vehicle.

Cheers

HI

Sadly, there is a lot to do in order to make it a production III.

The kit is of the prototype so you will need new roadwheels, skirts as well as other hull and turret upgrades.

In the end it depends on how you want to build it. Legend offers some really nice convs and upgrades sets if you are interested.

Thanks Logan,

I guess this is more a building/painting exercise with the goal to learn more about armour building than getting an exact replica of the modern Merkava III. Who knows I may look up the Legends set though

Cheers

I believe the barrel is fixed because of the structural features of the merkava's turret which would force Academy to make an over engineerd joint which might be pricey or quirky looking or both.
however, if you sand the lower portion of the mantlet you could achive some depression to the gun barrel.

Legend's conversion sets are quite the thing, I have the Mk.IID conversion and its a masterpiece, only downfall is the price which was a hefty 115 Aussie Dollars at Firestorm Models, but still the least expensive place I found for Legend's stuff.

if you havent built much armor I would suggest to wait with the complicated resin conversions and build some OOB models first.
