hi evryone.

does the tamiya sturmtiger has any, even basic, interior? if not, is there an aftermarket interior for it? i tried looking in some online shops but came up with no result.

does anyone have any links/pics of the interior?

many thanks..

p/s: mmm.... any rumours (we just love them ) if DML will ever release a 1/35 sturmtiger? well, they already have the basic chassis/ hull from their tiger kits...

Hi,

There is a very basic interior: driver's seat and steering wheel, amunition racks, loading tray and breech block. Pretty much just what you can see if you position the loading hatches (on top of the superstructure) open .

I think Eduard has some interior PE. Eduard's site or Squadron.com might be of some help if you do a search.

Tamiya's kit does, indeed, have a rudimentary interior. GIven what little you can see from the hatch, it was adequate to meet my needs when I built it with a crewman sitting atop the hatch.

Joe Bakanovic of Tiger Models built a Sturmtiger with full interior for AMPS 2002. He used Royal Model interiors and Tank Workshop transmission. Check-out his write up here

P/S: Jimbo, the Royal Model interior is too much for me.

thanks for the replies guys.

- about the tamiya kit, can the whole top panel (not just the hatches) be removed to show more of the interior?

- does anyone know how the italeri sturmtiger kit compares to tamiya's?

thanks agrilion for the link. it explains pretty much all the available AM for thesturmtiger. the Royal Model interior seems pretty complete... however, at $45++ i'll probably give it a pass...

cheers.

Jimbo, when I see you in DEC SnT, I will show you the Tamiya kit. Hopefully by then it would answer all your questions.

Happy Modelling

I am currently building the Tamiya kit with a full interior. It depends on how accurate you want the detail to be. The top panel would have to be cut off, so it might ruin it for dio purposes. If you leave just the hatches open you could get by with an Aber interior kit - it even has all the storage racks.

For full accuracy you would need the following:

Royal Superdetail kit (mostly for the full transmission - the TWS is only the front half - but also the drivers and radio operators area )
Aber German Radio kit (THE most stunning fret ever)
Aber Interior kit
Armo or Tamiya Aluminium shells (Optional)

The worst part is the breech/housing for the barrel. The kit bears little relation to the real thing and has been designed really for exterior display only. You will need to upscale the armour on all three walls plus the glacis (4mm), remove the mounting mechanism and build a correct one (even left alone the Tamiya mount shows big gaps from the exterior). You will also need to scratch the flame cut vertical armour panel in front of the driver.

In the kit the sighting mechanism and elevation control are one piece - this is wrong - they are separate and mounted to different parts of the breech/barrel mount. In any event they too bear little relation the real thing and have to be built from scratch.

You will also need at least 5 torsion bars and mounts (the Royal has good mounts but brass rod is better for the bars)

Maybe this would be a great subject for Dragons next 3-in1?

Brian

thankx for the info brian.... erm, if i would just remove the top hull panel, would it be necessary to include the transmission? i.e: is it visible?

would the AM sets fit into the italeri kit as well?

.... i'm not actually too fussy on tiny details and accuracy, just that i intent to make the interior fighting compartment to look 'busy' enough..

cheers.

If you remove the top hull, you'll still need to detail up the driver's position. The basic transmission block which is beneath the mortar is visible. The area of the transmission mechanism in front of the driver is less so -- someone would really have to know what he/she was looking for.

The Tamiya kit is pretty busy, especially if you decide to add the additional ammo rounds. It will be very crowded -- especially if you limit the opening to only the roof. If you keep the entire superstructure removable, you'll expose much more.

If so, then I would recommend the Aber interior and Royal sets. Expensive but will fill you out completely.
