Hello my friends of armorama.

I'm now working on the italieri demag with the 2cm flak, and it's pretty close to the end. I'm now thinking on what figures I could take to go along with the dio. I want the scene to take place during Arhnem fights. I saw in german propaganda news some flak units had done a big it, on the border of a forest, on american paratroopers falling from the sky. I will place two 82nd paratroopers behind an hedgerow waiting to shot the germans by surprise and have their revenge.
Can anyone give me information on the uniforms of the american paratroopers engaged in Arhnem and also the uniforms and units of the german flak engaged (Luftwaffe or SS).

Your help would be very appreciate.

Happy modelling all of you;

Best

to my best knowledge, you will need British/ Polish paratroopers if you accurately want to display the diorama in Arnhem at operation Market Garden.

US paratroopers were involved, but more near Nijmegen.

Richard is correct, in Arhnem proper you are looking at British and Polish paratroopers... they will have uniforms similar to this...

Americans (101st and 82nd ABN) were dropped at other targets as part of Operation Market Garden. They were wearing the model '43 jump suit (Normandy figures are not accurate for Market Garden) and will look something like this:

Great mates !
In fact the dio will represent a countryside element, so it will fit (it could be everywhere else but I prefer put my dio in a story, a larger theater..).
Thank you very much for the photos, you look great !
for the figs, I had already paint 2 US paratroopers of the Operation Varsity dragon kit. From what I can see on the photo, the uniform looks ok. I just will have to ad shoulder patch.
For the flak crew, I want to include two figs from the archtung jabo dragon kit. I guess I should only change the collar patch, depending luftwaffe or ss.
Thanks guys.

King:
Yep, those Varsity figures should work just fine.
For the record, that's not me in either photo.... :-)

Surely these figures are tank crew? Flak crews from the Luftwaffe would wear either the Fliegerbluse or the Luftwaffe camo uniform (I think dragon do some 16th Luftwaffe Division in Normandy wearing this uniform), or possibly black overalls. The SS units involved in this battle were from 9th & 10th SS divisions, & also 16th SS Training Battn led by Sturmbannfuhrer Sepp Krafft (based in Arnhem). All these units used the equipment you are modelling. Crewmen seem to have worn anything from SS service dress, through the various SS cam uniforms to overalls.

Well, Julien, both the 82nd and 101st saw heavy fighting around Nijmegen and Eindhoven while capturing their objectives, so you've got a good story to base your dio on.

Luftwaffe flak crews often wore the fallschirmjager camo smock, so you could use paras without the web gear.

Hi,
Sorry for the photos, I thought it was you and a friend. I hope I don't offense you....
I will turn the archtung jabo as SS, and nevermind the bollocks if they have tanker vest, I saw photos were flak crew worn tankers uniforms.
Thank you all for the information you gave me.
Best
Julien
