Hey all,
Three questions on the Initial Tiger 1.
1. Were there mesh covers on the engine deck? I'm pretty sure there were, but want to check before I buy them.
2. There are no cables on this version. Did the crew have to reley on a maintence crew for cables, or were they stored internally somewhere?
3. What color would the under side of the engine, and fan covers be? Primer red?

Any help on these would be greatly appreciated!

Yes.

Not sure, but I can't think of any place to store them.

Probably. But in the case of the fan covers, I imagine the painter would have them open in order to do a good job without getting paint on the fans. So they would be done both sides.

I might be mistaken but didn't tigers have towing cables from the start?
It just the track cable that was installed later (Sept 1942). The Towing cables were present on the early tigers, they were just reversed.

Well that can really screw things up for me-and anyone else building this kit. Any actual photos showing the cable?

I'm no expert on the Tiger but these are suppose to be photos of the early models:
http://www.alanhamby.com/early.html
There is one with the panzer III bin on the turret with cables.

But as I said I'm no expert and can't tell you whether the first tigers did or didn't have towing cables. The link in my previous post states that in august 42 a complete tool set was added, maybe the cables were part of that. Now the production started in august as well but I don't know whether the start of the production is also the exact date for the implementation of the changes mentioned.

I hope I haven't caused to big a problem with my question.

Pascal, none of those pictures are of the 'Initial' Tigers, they are Early tigers which were built after the Initials. The main give away being the mounting bolts for skirts.

Ok, we need a Tiger expert to clear this up. The first link Hut has is an initial Tiger, and it does look like it has a tow cable on the deck. But it's not an actual photo. The second link with the pictures, we can rule those out because as Vinnie said, they are all early Tigers. So now what??
