Well, I figured I'd post another one of my models. This is UM's 1/72 Marder III. It recieved a silver at KC AMPS in October.
This one was also built OOTB, and was finished around April. I gave is a basic base coat of a mix of MM yellowish paint (I think regular panzer yellow is a little greenish, but I'm colorblind, so what do I know) followed by a burnt umber acrylic wash and various shades of drybrushing. It was also weathered with pastels.
The ground was made with a thin layer of Durham's Water Putty. The grass is from Woodland Scenics, and was cut to size (it is the dyed hair stuff, this was before I had static grass) I experimented with mixing paint into the putty to get the color for the ground and then sticking the grass directly into the wet putty. This seemed to work okay but was very tedious. The tree is made from balsa wood and bits of caspia. The road was given various washes a drybrushings and finished with crushed oregano for texture.
The base is just a $0.50 piece of pre-cut wood that I sanded and stained.
The figure is the first I've painted ever, so please go easy on it. It is one of the vinyl figures that came with Dragon's 1/72 E-100 and Maus. I painted it with MM acrylics.
I know the decals silvered a little bit, and the tread marks aren't as prominent as they probably should be, but this was one of my earlier attempts.
Thanks for looking, and all comments are greatly appreciated!
Chris

Here there chris, i love the tank, looks great especially being dwarfed by that magnificent tree! I like how you used the dried arrangement as pine branches, never came to mind! I dont think this could work in 1/35 but in 1/72 its on the money. Keep it up and congrats on the silver!

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you like it. I guess it's true that I'm my own worst critic...
I got the idea for the tree from an issue of Finescale Modeler a couple years ago. It was kind of aggravating when I first started, but after building a few, I can crank one out in about an hour, no sweat. I actually did a demo on these for the club I'm in, so I've got a bunch of them waiting to be used!
Ekke: I highly recommend this kit! Naturally, there were a few rough spots during the build, but for the most part the kit just flows together. (just pay attention to which way to tracks go! I didn't really enjoy redoing them...) I actually finished this entire piece in about a week. Its a great kit and I have a couple more in the stash waiting to be built.
Can't wait to see the Panzer IV when its finished! Which kit is it?

Chris,
My only "knock" on this is that the pictures are knid of dark (to these eyes) and I would like see closer shots. I do like that tree very much!

Chris, i love this little one too. I really like marders and after having seen yours up close at the show i can definitely say it is a good one I am very interested in these trees you do as well. Would you consider putting together a step by step article to submit to the site? I would be happy to help you with it in any way you need. Let me know. Cheers Kevin
