Does anyone have a way to put decals on top of zimmerit wthout silvering. I DO NOT POSSESS THE SKILL TO PAINT THE TWO TONED NUMBERS. That having been said please do not respond that that is what you do. I have considered using Archer transfers. So the question is, does anyone have a way that works using decals or transfer?
Something to be considered is a scale stencil set. Is there a brass company that makes little two part numbers that you can spray on Like the real thing when you do a tank. That would be an option, but I have never seen anyone offering a set of those for sale.

-pretty much what Chuck said. I would not use the kit decals if those are Tamiya Panthers as they tend to be too "thick" in my opinion. Archer sells a decal sheet that you can rub the transfer on & then use it as decal - I have not tried it yet, but I bet it will look very good. I used these decals made by 3rd Group? on my crappy Panther G I did awhile ago and they worked just fine...

I simply brush the applied decals with an allmost dry brush with liquide Humbrol glue - it softens the decals and bonds them to the model.
But be careful - not too much glue and only one or two strokes, otherwise you will smear the decal all over the tank.
Cheap, easy and dont require extra shopping (if you have liquid glue in the house...)

I've had success using Tamiya decals over Zimmerit. Try to cut down as much of the carrier as possible. The saturate the area with MicroSol or Mocroset. Apply the decal as you normally would and apply more MocroSol or MicroSet. I used this over some pretty ridgy home made zim with no silvering. My collection of Pz IV doing this took several awards about 8 years ago.

Steve -
I've used the thin coat of Future and then applied the decals using MicroSol which seems to work out fine over my Cavalier "Zim" set. Also Eduard has sets of "mask" for German 1/35th markings (SquadronShop has them);
Subject: German Numbers Medium Express Mask
Stock No: EUXT008
Subject: German Numbers Large Express Mask
Stock No: EUXT009
I haven't used them, but might be an option> hope this helps some.

Thnaks guys, so pretty much what I've done but perhaps need to use a bit more micro-sol and probably trim the decals a bit.

Here is a picture of my just finished Tiger I with the new Bison Decals on it. the decals snuggled down over the Zimmerit perfectly with a bit of Solvaset.

I'm going to try this on the "diamond pattern" found on the panther d's. We'll see how well this comes out with this
