Hi all,
on the verge of starting my new project with the Tamiya ODS kit. I would like to know if there were any M2A2 in early stages of Kosovo with the new driver hatch hinge system.
I don't intend to do a OIF vehicle as I already have a lot of US armor in Tan.
I will try to implement the mods described by Vodnik in his excellent article.
I also need to know how is the hull just above the rear ramp now that the swim barrier is removed. Is there any remnants of the tie-downs or is there a plain metal sheet ?
Does the new driver hatch hinge apply only for manufacture new ODS vehicle or is it good for upgraded older M2's ? Same Q? for the new side skirts brackets.
I know there are a lot of Q? but I would like to be as accurate as possible.
My current refs are Vodnik's site and the Concord book "M2 backbone of US mech inf". Unfortunately, there is no close pics of these areas.
TIA

Sorry,
one more question to add to the previous
Has anybody close pics of the track adjuster and last shock absorber attachments. I'd like to show the last skirt upside down.
TIA

Driver's hatch hinge could be seen on M2A2 ODS in Kosovo. The ODS mods were/are done on older vehicles as they go through services. They were begun just at the end of ODS and continue today. You can see some mods done and others not on the same vehicle, or different vehicles in the same company with different stages of mods as well. So, yes, you can see older vehicles retrofitted and new/rebuilds vehicles with the above items you mentioned.
For the rear swim barrier area, it doesn't take much to make it without. If it is an older vehicle that has simply had it removed, it will look the same. For a new build vehicle, it will be smooth across the rear, above the ramp, without any tie-downs for the swim barrier.
