Well guys, my building has been a bit slow lately, but here are some in- progress pics of my NM 198 C2IS Vehicle. I thought this should be an easy conversion but I was a bit wrong, mostly because I’m new to scratch building. So far I have built all the extra boxes and the Fruil M-113 tracks. I’m also using an Eduards M-113 PE set and an interior from the Tamiya M-113 A1 which will be heavily modified to match the brand new interior of the NM 198. I have re positioned some of the antenna bases and added tow hooks from an old Leopard kit. Lots of small details as bolts and nuts have been added as well. The vehicle has so far been built in sections so never mind the gaps, since nothing has been glued in place yet.
The large AB 178N VHF antenna is almost 11 meters/36 feet high in real life. I would very much like to hear your opinions about modelling the vehicle with the antenna raised since it looks a bit out of scale. However, it is dead-on scale since I have measured the real thing.
Any comments and critics are much appreciated.
Cheers
Erik

Looks great Eric
I cant wait to see it finished and all painted up.
I think the attenna looks great , just you will have to be carefull where you display it , dont want any accidents and it getting snapped off (my favourite trick )
By the way , where is the attenna stored when not in use ????

LoL, I get this question all the time. The antenna mast is a telescopic type and swing backwards over the roof. Thh antenna it self is stored in the big box over the rear door.
Here is a pic where you can se the mast swung over the roof.

That is what we call a “”Kangaroo pouch". It is for the crews’ personal kit, like back packs, bags, sleeping bags etc.

When we are moving I'm the vehicle commander. When we are established in a command post mode, I have "several different tasks"...

I like all the extra bins and especially the MG3 mount. I'd have the antenna stowed. Having it mounted up is just begging to have the whole model knocked over or at least so in my house.

Beautiful work Erik!
Judging by the photographs I can see you take the time and patience to build something you can be proud of. With all the scratch building and PE parts it would almost be a shame to paint it!
I love it! Good work!

Just a short update on the antenna. It is 99% finished, just need some light sanding before it is ready for priming. The whole thing is scratch built from steel enforced/normal styrene rods and styrene strips. The winch is made of aluminum from a beer can, pieces from strips and rods of styrene, streched sprue and copper wire. I think I should have used streched sprue for the wire, but I might get it straight with another drop of super glue.
Critics and comments are much appriciated.
Cheers Erik
The whole antenna is 30.9 cm long
Lower part. Still need some sanding on the top "grab handle"
Winch. Made from scratch
Ps. Sorry for the bad pics. I want a Nikkor Macro lens and photo lights for Christmas...

Great work!!
This is why I love the 113.So many things you can build from a box on tracks. The kits are cheap and there are so many conversions you can do.
Keep us posted.

Superb job Erick, in my opinion the antenna should be deployed, but depending if you have enough space in your home to place it without any risk of damage......and if you´re not moving from there in a long, long time.....
Best Regards and keep up the good work, thanks for sharing
