I was wondering and going to try this but could you not make a color such as field grey form mixing an enamel field grey and say white oil paint. My intention is to have eth military colours but have the consistency and flexibility of oil.

Hi godfather,
If you take a look at the first article I did on mixing oil paint, there is a recipe there for olive drab and one for field grey. You can find it under Features...Figures.
I don't know anything about enamels so I'm clueless about mixing them with oil paint.
I hope it helps you out.

The great figure modeller...Bill Horan....uses Hombrol enamels and oil paints to great effect....so I know it can be done but....I've never tried it yet.

I regularly mix enamels with oils, especially white enamel with burnt sienna for flesh.

How does it effect the drying time?

Drying time is significantly faster than oils alone.

I've found using oils and enamels together is easy.
As mentioned, the drying time of the oils is speeded up, and your enamesl dry slower (depends on whether most of your mix is oil or enamel!).
Matt enamels mixed with oils also result in a flat finish! (again depending on mixture proportions)
Cheers

AmI correct in thinking that using the Oil as the base and then mixing some enamel with it to modify the color is the most likely way of doing this? Also, is coverage enhanced by the oil pigments?

One could say I'm creating a lighter shade of burnt sienna oil by adding white enamel or one could say I'm creating a warmer, fleshier white with burnt sienna.
