I just recently picked modeling up again after many years off and I have a novice question to ask.

Is it better to apply pastels before of after the coats of Future?

All opinions welcome, thanks.

Hi Gael, welcome to Armorama, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay and get your modeling skills back up quickly if you hang around for awhile.
Typically I apply pastels as the last step in the weathering process. I want everything to appear weathered, including decals and equipment. This make for a consistant looking model.
My basic process:
-after painting apply a gloss coat
-apply decals
-apply gloss coat
-apply pin wash
-apply dull coat
-apply dry brushing
-apply pastels
-sit back and pat your self on the back for a job well done !

The way i do it is to apply the gloss coats first, followed by the decals then a wash using artist oils then weathering with pigment powder or pastels in your case then seal it all with a matt clear coat.

Thats just one of the many ways it can be done.
