Hi all,
Just wanted to let you what I’m working on for the Welcome to the Nam campaign. From the first time I saw this picture (from: Groundwar Vietnam vol. 2 by Jim Mesko) I wanted to build such a raft:

It took some time and research to find out what this raft was made of. It consist of M4T6 floating bridge pontoons and a 27 ft. bridge erection boat used for propulsion. This bridge erection boat looks like this

Funny thing is there seem to be ‘floating’ quite a few of these boats in the Dutch canals and rivers (lucky me!).
Since there’s no kit available, this had to be my first scratchbuilding-project. Here’s my attempt at the bridge erection boat:

any tip or comment is welcome

Kind regards
Mark

That is a very nice scratch build.
Looks like you're going to need tamiya's M16 half track for the quad 50.

Glad you like it! It's in 1/35 scale. And indeed I have a Tamita M16 quad 50's ready for it (well ready to assemble that is). But first I have to finish the M4T6 pontoons (I started on those already but there still a lot of work to do)
I intend to build a diorama for it but I'm afraid that won't be ready before the end of the WTTN campaign.

I'll keep you informed

Hi Jeffrey,
It's true: it's hard to find good reference (well drawings that is). I was lucky there were a few of these boats here in The Netherlands so pictures were no problem. I made a drawing myself (topview) as a guide to cut the styrene. The rest was build using the pictures as reference (luckily I'm not a rivet-counter )

If you're interested in the drawing and/or pictures, just let me know.

kind regards

Mark
