Frank

Good to see you back. I've heard nothing but kudo's regarding these Russian vehicles, (I assume this is one of the Trumpeter models).

Looking forward to seeing it painted in one of your stunner finishing/weathering jobs.

Hi Steve. Yip ... one of the trumpeter models. Great kit. I plan on doing at least one more of these .. probably the KV2. I might go to town on the that one. Thanks for keeping in touch all this time. Much appreciated.

I picked up one of hose on ebay last month real cheap. Glad to see that despite it being such a simple weapon system that Trumpeter really did a fine job with it. That's just OOB too.....I'm glad I've got one of these in the stash

Nice Frank!

I see some pre-shading? What colour have you used for the tracks?

I'm going to work on my KV simplified turret today too, adding some washes etc

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Shain and Jurjen. Thanks for the comments.
There are actually 4 KVIs and a KVII
00356 Russia KV-1 (Model 1941) "KV Small Turret" Tank
00357 Russia KV-1s Ehkranami
00358 Russia KV-1 (Model 1942) Simplified Turret Tank
00359 Russia KV-1 (Model 1942) Heavy Cast Turret Tank
00312 Russia KV-2
This wont be going in a Dio, but more than likely will have a simple base. I want to build more of these ... and recommend, if you´re interested in them, to go for it. Good price, good fit and cool model overall in my opinion. For anybody who has problems with indy tracks, this is definately a must, as it is so simple to get this right.

There is pre and post shading! I actually took images at every stage to explain to a fellow club member how to paint a fully assembled tank without masking! This has only two assemblies ... turret and hull/running gear. The photos above are dissapointing because they look a little(?) faded. I just photographed them where I sprayed and the light background reflected too much light and the green is not how it looks like, just now. I took some more at my normal set up, and this is closer to reality (below). The tracks are Tamiya XF-10 flat brown and faded with XF-52 flat earth. This is only a base colour before weathering. I prefer my tracks a darker shade.

Two new images of how the actual green looks in reality. Base colours are tamiya and an over-filter/spray of Vallejo Air-colour - 017 Russian green.

hi there will be two versions of the KV 2 and if they do all the KV 1's there should be model 1939 , 1940 small turret , simplified turret , cast turret 1941, Cast turret 1942 , Aplique armour turret . two hull types curved and cut off at angle . But the combinations for sub types is all part of an ongoing research paper I am working on at the moment just to give an example 7 sub types can be built from the Applique armed turret alone . From the KV square turret 4 sub types . and that is before I carry out the research on the rest of them cheers ian

hi the ringlets as you call them are the result of the welding of the steel pins fitted into the drilled holes , this was all part of the assembly of the tank , it was used on the hull construction as well. cheers ian

Hi Ian. Good to see you back again. According to Terry Ashley, this is actually the 1940 model. (PMMS review )
There were 2 gun barrels and 2 mantlets in the set ... any idea what they ... which is which .. what the differences are?? Cheers.

hi all the two guns are the early L11 which if fitted correctly needs the two side strips either side of the gun trunions all ready molded on the turret face removing , the later is the F 32 as per the kit build . If anyone needs clarification send an e mail to [email protected] and I will send a scan of the turret front for the early 1939 / 40 early L 11 title it L11 gun cheers ian

I noticed a lens for the headlight is missing.. And a heavier wash would be great!
