If you've seen my dio post, this is the thread to comment on the DW.
I realize I've been too heavy on the weathering. I think I will tone it down with some base color wash in some areas.
There is still so many things to do : painting details, small parts to glue, not to mention the dry brushing...

Looks great so far ...I too like em down and dirty, but that is really up to you ...I did notice the rust color on the rollers at the top of the trailler...I don't think they would rust much as the wires were kept in good condition and would polish the rollers every time they pulled another tank onto the flat bed .. Remeber these trucks were cover in oil and grease ,so grimey is good ..rust well not too much.

Ropi, I think it looks great. I've been following your build and can't help but wonder how in the heck you masked that monster when you painted it! I don't even want to think about doing that.
Again, great build. Are you going to be adding a broken down vehicle to it or is it going to be naked?

I always say that a good model is one that you are pleased with, so what the heck if you are working to a theme let it be as weathered as you like, after all it is difficult to compare wartime vehicles with modern vehicles on exercise and campaign as the time from D Day to VE day took almost a year. There is no doubt that fighting took preference to washing etc.
A suggestion, how about dirtying the deck of the trailer with some fine sand or model railway ballast, fixed with wood glue and weathered.
I still keep looking at my dragon wagon and think one day soon................
Keep enjoying yourself,
John

Hey nicoropi
Agree with the others- get that dust kickin'!
Are the figs in their final position? If so, i think the GI on buiding corner holding his helmet looks too much like he is 'surprised' at the transporter? Maybe have the same pose but that arm leaning on a post or a stack of crates or something similar, which would give him a more "Aww shucks, nothin's amazin' me..." look about him...
Just an opinion
Cheers
Brad

Ropi, the DW looks good and I like the building. One thing i suggest is moving the GI's closer to the civilians though, DW with trailers were notorious in taking buildings on small european roads. I.s why they were sometimes followed by a Wrecker with a big crane, or travel aed and recovered without the trailer. But, taking the fact it's just a rough layout nowi'm sure you'll figure the stuff out. Looks good STUG

Thanks for the inputs fellowes!
You're definetly inspiring me to get some energy . I need it since it is my premiere with resine figs, buildings, and decent kits...
Richard, I will remove the rust on the back of the trailer. What color do you suggest to get the "grimey" look?
Cary, I have indeed started a Shermen to go on the baby. Got sidetracked with the figs and the building... and armorama!
Alan, the kit is indeed the most fun one I've built so far. It is very complex but Tamiya does a perfect job at making it accessible to beginners like me.
John, what are you waiting to start yours?
Brad, what's still missing is a lamp post right in front of the GI looking scared. The DW will be smashing the post while taking the turn, right in front of the GI. The other GI will be kind of directing the DW to try to take the turn. I don't think it will be able to make it since the roads will be narrow...
So I think it fits well with Steve comment.
Behind the DW will be a couple of other vehicles, with the crew enjoying the break by meeting with the locals...
Do you know if there are kits that would give the same fun than the DW?
Which colors do you recommend for more washes?

How about Tamiya's Famo, with or without the trailer? I'm building the Famo now and it's a great kit. I'm a relatively new builder too and this kit falls together much as my DW did. Unfortunately I sold the kit with the trailer and now after starting this kit, I wish I hadn't.
