Blimey Russ - is there any more room in that appartment of yours?
I'm not a fan of axis subjects, but this does look good - the desert scene suits your heavily weathered style.

Gday sas
Think the sand drift in the front wheel hub looks great although would only happen if they came to a standstill right, as if there is a small wind whipping along at ground level... ?
Love the gun!
Only gripe would be that the topless fella doesn't look 'smooth' enough? (Don't mean with the ladies... ) There may be a little too much dry brushing for bare flesh like this.
Cheers
Brad

Yes I wasn`t to happy with a few of the figures in this piece, inparticularly the barechested one but we can`t win everytime! In my builds I do like to embelish different aspects of nature like the depth of sand or snow,to portray vehicles working really hard to negotiate rough terrain.
Room, what`s that,I ran out of room oh about ten dios ago, thanks for asking Dave, lol! I have made a recent donation to the base Army museum of about 25 dioramas but it didn`t help much, probably have to go and see if they`ve got any empty buildings that could be used to display a few, dreamin I know but you never know till you ask.
Thanks guys.

I really like this dio. I've become a big fan of your work as of late. So this is not a "nit-pick" but more of a question, Is the guy in the passenger seat Have hair the same color as his skin or is that just the lighting ? Lastly, with regards to the same figure, is his head a bit big ?
Great job
Harry

Yep you found the other figure I`m not happy with, actually I`m never happy with any figs as I mentioned in another dio thread I hate doing figures,
but inorder to complete the scene they are necessary!
If I`m not mistaken he did have a light straw colouring for hair but for some reason the colours in this set of pics were doing a little bleeding which probably contributes even more to my disgust of the figures on this one.We learn from what we do even if it`s stuff we hate doing!

What did you use for that sand. That dio looks really good, just like a shot right off the History Channel.

It looks good. Very dusty and not very clean.
I think the figure to the right of the driver looks like the chef (cook) in "Das Boot"...
I like the effect on the sand. It looks quite hard to drag that gun around.
Thanks for sharing

The sands are decorative sands for candles in vases
and you can find them at a Micheals craft store near you. Also did I mention that the field gun is a Hinncliffe
whitemetal howitzer,I didn`t get the front end towing part of the carrage so at the last moment I had to scratch something so that it could be towed.
Many thanks for the great comments!

... great piece of work! the weathering on the half-track & gun is outstanding.... but what i like the most is your groundwork & how the vehicles sink into the sand.... amazing stuff...
btw what is the calibre (?mm) of the cannon?

Sorry Mojimbo, been trying to locate the very poor instuction leaflette to give you the size of this FH with no luck, the few books that I have don`t show anything on this howitzer as well. I don`t build German vehicles and artillery as a constant so I`m not all that familiar with sight recognition of certain vehicles and specialy with artillery. Maybe someone here can shed some light for you.

SAS, your weathering techniques are fantastic. Love the tarps. The gun looks great. And as far as the sand in the wheels if you are going through some soft stuff i do not see why it wouldn't get into the wheele it self. just make sure they don't get stuck!
