I am currently working on a Kosovo war diorama that features a Challenger I tank. It looks great and I am extremely pleased with the project thus far. The way it sets on the diorama it will be between two trees I scratch built using wire coated with plaster and painted. Everything turned out great so far except yesterday I was going to make some camouflage netting using bandages and I could not find any references for the color scheme. Does anyone know what color these net are Dark green, Nato Green , Tan, or Brown? I also was going to sprinkle Italian seasons over the painted netting to highlight the effect. I appreciate any advice on the subject

Hello and welcome (for your first post).

I don't remember having seen Chally 1 with camo nets during the first steps of NATO force entry into Kosovo but I can be wrong.

I hope British armor specialists could help here.

I have been out of the service for some time and used Chieftain, Challenger was then called Shah 2 and destined for Iran, so you know the dates. However on the whole our camnets were often carried in stowage bags or on a bin as they have a habit of getting caught in things and getting pulled of. As on the whole it is tanks of other nations that go festooned with everything including the kitchen sink, I would imagine is is the same now.

In my day they were a basic green, but took on other sheens according to exposure and batch etc. They also have a nylon scrim strategically attached to look like leaves and are impregnated with a dye to help cut down on Infra-red emmissions.

Alongside that ours [then] were plain tan for desert and white for ceiling hangings for parties etc.

If you are desperate I may have a section of scrim somewhere that I could dig out and take a picture of. Let me know, hope my piping in is of help. I also have a picture with me in a Scorpion that I could scan and send you, with the camnet draped around the turret. But it is in black and white as it was for a picture in my local paper, so my Mum and Dad could see what I did.

Regards,

John

Travis,

British cam netting is as follows,

OD nylon netting, gaps approx 3 inches square.

Foliage is nylon material green one side, brown the other, cut in totally random patterns attached to the netting.
