Static grass always looks more realistic. Astro turf looks like astro turf.

If you want them to be parked on a golf green, go for it. Otherwise, I would use the static grass.

Are you talking about the stuff that comes in sheets of the "fine turf" in the bag? I've used the bagged stuff in 54mm and it looks okay. I'm transitioning to "Just Grass" from 3 Guyz and am getting good results from that. I haven't used the sheets in 30 years.

For realism you cannot beat Silflor or the similar product from Heki.

You need to be careful using either in 1/72 scale dioramas.

From my recollection, they are both fairly large for that scale.
I prefer static grass in general over turf. however, if the grass blades are up to the figures knees you may opt for turn. The turn you can chop up withing a kitchen knife to get a finner texture.

The best advice is to do a small test, use two bottle caps or so and glue some of each and put a figure next to/on it and see which one looks better.

Silflor comes in 2mm, 4mm and 8mm heights, so depending on what you want to depict, I think you can be safe using it.

This is my 1/72nd scale KV-1 with 8mm Silflor.

I think i would agree with Sticky on this one. Get some Silflor..heres a pic of my 1/72nd T-26 using 8mm Silflor. As sticky said..they also have it in 2mm, 4mm, 5mm. For realism i dont think you can get better.

I am finishing up a small 1/72 diorama/vigenette and I used Silfor/Heki for the first time. It looks awesome and is easy to use. I think I am hooked on using Silfor for now on. Awesom dioramas Sticky and Tankysgal1 BTW. I will post some photos of mine once it is fully completed.

Cheers,
Salvo

Hi all,

Just read the posts. Where do you get the Silflor and/or Heki? I think this would look good as highlights on my planned dio.

Thanks,

Mike

Go to Scenic Express. They are one provider that sells both of those products. Here is the address on the net:

Okay, stupid question but one that I need to know: 1/35th scale equates to what in train scale (O, G)???? I looked at the site and it's nice, but it's mostly for Choo-choo'rs....also did a Google for Heki and it came back with the same........

Thank you!

Mike
