Hi all
Some feed back on this idea would be great,do you think that a formed base with decorative edge (like framed) with a road already formed with a road service of choice ,ie cobble texture track textured ashphelt with man hole cover for example embossed, curb edgeing with or with out damage.
Do you think that is some thing modlers would buy, also very good quality figure bases in all types of wood at very reasonable prices, also forms for buildings both complete and damaged in mdf / or high dens/foam
Any feed back would be great iam working with a guy who has a Shop Bot which is a computer operated router/cutter the stuff it makes is out of this world and iam trying to develop some different applications.
Any feed back or thought would be great.
Cheers Chris

Sounds good to me. Many companies already do these; like Verlinden, Monroe Purdue Design, etc. Cost would be the only factor. I'm sure if you could make and sell them cheapely, they would sell.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I'd certainly be game for some reasonably priced figure bases. I use $1.29 2X2 inch blocks from Michaels. I have a hard time with a nice base with some burl showing that costs almost as much ar the figure that will be posed on it.

I would definately think that if you could develop a product as you are talking about, that is of good quality, at an affordable price..you will do great in such a venture.

I'm with AJ here - some reasonable figure bases would be good - I've just found some on Ebay, but otherwise Andrea bases are all I can find - and they cost 1/2 what I spend on most figures.
Say - 2" & 4" diameter for foot figures (for 54mm & 90-120mm), and 5"x2" & 7"x 3" for mounted pieces would be good - I'd be happy to have these posted from the US if I had a good cheap source.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the feed back ,ia am putting some ideas together for the new year trying out some ideas ,which i think will work out real well.
Al, Dave i agree very often the bases are more than the bloody figure in certain woods, i go to auctions now and buy the wood you would be amazed at how you can pick up certain woods for a very resonable price.
Will keep you informed of developments.
Cheers Chris

Chris in addition to all that's said above maybe an inclusion of a glass case may be considered. You could have standard ones that fit most tanks and maybe a several fixed heights of glass case for dios. Of course these glass cases would already have been fitted to your standard base offerings.
I'd go with a few standard sized bases first with several wood types at reasonable prices and then slowly move upmarket a bit if demand is good and include the roads, groundwork, better wood, etc. that you mentioned. Just a thought.

My personal preference is not to have them too big. A few square inches for a single figure or one suitable for displaying a vehicle would be great. I would not get a large one for a dio because I want to build the diorama myself.

Good Idea, I for one would consider buying some, if they were reasonably priced. Doesn't have to be all these outrageously expensive exotic woods. A good old fashion hard wood like oak would be fine with me.
I personally would prefer a hard wood to cut down on warpage.
I'm sure I'm not the only one living in an apartment, with no access to a carpenter/wood workers shops, that are willing to cut and shape bases on small orders, that are affordable.

Hi Dave Alan CK
Thanks guys for the responses and great feed back this what i need, all have been noted all of which have the potential to be done, and you made a very good point Dave about space.
Looking into making modlers work stations which would be in the flat pack form and made to the specs of the client again for some of us space right hight and storage being critical in a sense made to measure.
I agree Alan there are many modlers out there who like to make there detail on the bases.
I was just thinking that it would perhaps be a good idea as some time, time is a critical factor i was generaly thinking on the lines of a road curbed edge track etc already on the edged base.
Again thanks guys
Cheers Chris off to work now HO Ho said Santa

I think you have some good ideas there.
As far as small figure bases go you should be able to make them out of some of your scrap wood to help keep the price down.
The work stations are also a great idea as well. If you go ahead with it you could probably even make paint booths for people as well.
