Well I've started Dragons DAK Tiger and I must say I'm impressed...Things are starting to come together and I,m about a week away from painting it ...I've painted a few of the details in advance ..let me know what you think ...Sorry for the bad pictures I just took them on my work table.
Opps wrong tiger !!
I changed the kit P/E clamps for Abers so that I can add the tools after painting ..All the clasps are funtional.
screens were added and banged up a bit with the round end of a paintbrush to make them looked walked on .
The kit comes with clear parts for the commander cupola I've painted them up but still need to add paddling between the visors.
I also painted the inside of the turret and the gun ..I scrathed it up and all but we won't see much down there especially with a figure in the hatch ..Hey I know it's there ..
I added chainsto the feifel system caps.
Some of the tools painted up using humbrol and oil paints..
I added a bit of texture to my exhaust system with humbrol paint and pastels.
The tow cable ends were painted but the cable itself turn this color just from anealing the wire .
let me know what you think
Rick

Wow! Great looking tools (and everything else for tha matter). That's possibly the most realistic looking wood I've ever seen. How did you do it?

Thanks for the comments ...The wood is very simple to do ...you just paint the wood any sand color and let it dry ...You then take some oil paint (raw umber ,burnt umber or raw sienna )and cover the wood completely with the oil paint staight out of the tube ...you leave it on for about 1/2 and them take a dry flat brush and wipe off the oil paint in the direction of the wood grain ...wipe the brush off often ..the more oil paint you remove the lighter the wood color...that's it .

Craig -
As always an outstanding job and sets the standards for the rest of us. Love the "extras" to details like tools, holes/damage to screens. Hope there's a detail review article coming from this, it definitely deserves it.

Thanks for the comments guys...
Jereon the interior was painted with MM interior buff
but don't forget to paint the lower half of your hull grey-green....
Andy I'm not impressed with the Dragon P/E ...it'll work I guess but I have used a lot of the plastic parts instead of the P/E because I find the detail better.I do like the simplicity of the P/E for the track changing wire ..much easier to build that the Aber or Lionroar sets. I used the Aber clasps because they are workable and I can add the tools after I paint this beast.
I'll take more pictures as I go...Thanks for the encouragement .

Outstanding! What colors did you use on the tool steel? As for your graining technique, I've seen this suggested on home improvement shows for ways to spice up an otherwise plain wood door. I would have never thought to apply the technique to modeling.

The metal parts are painted with Humbrol 53 ..I usually use Humbrols polished steel but when I opened it up I got a surprise... dried out ! :-)

Looking good Rick, as others have mentioned also, very nice paint work on the tools thus far. I'm working on the late right now, but I've reached the point where I can't go any further without tackling the zimmerit, man I hate that stuff!! I guess it's actually a love/hate relationship , I hate dealing with the application, but the results are very satisfying. Anyway seeing your build gives me some motivation to get going. Keep those pics coming, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Best,
Mike

Hey Mike ...I know what you mean about the zimmerit...I did get the new Attak set for the Late ..Man it is awesome ....I wouldn't even bother trying to do it myself ...Think about it ! Thanks for the comments on my kit ..I've been advancing this project along quite quickly (for me that is) Other than a little warping in the hull ...This kit is amazing and so is the Late...Ain't it great to be a modeller these days! Happy holidays!

As mentioned by others, the painted tools look great. The pe clamps from Aber are very impressive.

Thanks Jesper ..those clamps drive me crazy but once I get them finished they do look good...Last couple of days I've been working on the hooks for the turret box...AAARRRGGHH! Finally finished up with kit parts ..Aber parts and Lionroar parts all mixed together for two tiny clips. Luckily I was trying to do this kit out of the box...yeah right!
