Hello lads.
How do i achieve the faded paint look on most AFV's. I have tried with heavily thinned Tamiya buff but it looks to white in the end.
Tips most welcome
Cheers

Hey there.. I've done a few filters so far and I use Tamiya Buff on some things but i've had good results using a lighter sand color as my fading on a paner yellow / sand vehicle.. and you can fade olive drab by adding a little yellow to it..

Alternatively, if you are looking for a warmer faded look, try adding a little Tamiya flesh, XF-15, into your base colour. It works with dark colour such as panzer grey, olive drab and dark green.
Whichever way you are going for, I would suggest some trial runs on an old model or a plastic card before hitting your master piece.

I use oil paint washes to define the details and also I use various layers of oil paint dry brushing over my Acrylic paint base colour. You have to keep in mind that the Tank was originally a non faded colour and that the fading is from usage and the weather.
Best of luck, oh and I would also recommend that you try out on some old models,
Damien
