I served in the army corp engineer for a while...build some MGB and saw a lot of AVLB in action...always has been fascinated by them...

having been hunting around for AVLB model and discover only hobby fan has a M48AVLB but it cost $226 ...phew.....I believe it must be resin...what's that ? Is it a different type of plastic ? I notice in most internet website, it says plastic intejection for most model...

Any clue out if there is there are AVLB at reasonable price, does not matter the era.....can be modern or WWII or .....

resin is a 2 part liquid cast into rubber molds. It's generally used by smaller companies because the initial investment is smaller. the downside is it's more $$ in the price of the kit.

The Hobby Fan kit is resin. While visiting Jacques Littlefield's place a couple of years ago, the head honcho of Hobby Fan told me and Jim Lewis(Guntruck) that they can only make one of these kits a day due to the complexity and size of the molds.

As I don't have that kit,I do have quite a few of their other kits. They are costly but well worth it in my opinion.

HI Pionner
Panzershop do a more reasonable T55 AVLB. I have one still unbuilt and the quality looks good.

Revell released a 40th scale version of the 48 AVLB. It is a collectors kit but they pop up on ebay from time to time. I've built one and have another in the stash. If after a while you can't secure one at a model show or off of ebay check back with me and I may be willing to part with it. Like I said, It is 40th scale and though it comes out looking pretty good it is not super detailed.

Philip........................this is a plastic kit ----nice for its year--bridge opens-----not a fancy detailed one ----pre-"rivet counters" ...............as for price ... ....£1-17/6p---(£1.88--$2)---40 +years ago (Had it before I was married ----thats 43 years)
Market price these days...who knows --to a collector saw a vintage kit about same age ---at Telford----£75....... Shall we just say --A LOT
If you can get good info ---bebetter scratching it ---near the same as M60---may be able to help there as I will be doing a Centurion with the same set -up soon
P-m me anytime -have plans for others-(dont think my kit has the springs for bridge-so its not really sellable)
Good hunting

If you are on a budget, ICM had released an early WW2 soviet IT-28 bridgelayer (plastic kit #35081). It has been included now in the Alanger range of kits :

$16.47 on Alanger website ....

I jst had this thought of doing my first dio....

I need help from any WW2 soviet tankie expert out there.

I have a T36/76 1943 model. Will the real bridge of the IT-28 handle the weight of a real T34/76 monster ?

I would like to do the dio such that the IT28 is on the far side of the river bank and a T34/76 is crossing from the near bank of the river....

I'm no expert, but according to an article of Steelmasters magazine (August 1999 issue) about this kit, the bridge was 13,30 meter long and it could support vehicles up to 50 tons....

Don't know if size/scale is an issue, but Revell-Germany make a nice 1/72 scale Leopard Bridgelayer (Biber) in regular 'model-type' injection plastic. Nice desk-top size, around 8-10" maybe, much cheaper than resin kits.

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks Frenchy,

I checked, the weight of a T34/76 1943 is about 31 ton and the width of the tank is about 3 meter.

There are not a lot of information on It-28 but I reference to T-28. The width of the T-28 is about 2.8 meter, so the bridge it carries should be wider than that, I assume ....

Any more interesting, I have just order the IT-28 from the website that you have given me.....hee..hee...

Just like back in the days when I have do recon work for a river crossing....but this time, it is 1/35 scale..hahaha....

will post some progress of the dio when I start building it...

You're welcome Philip. One thing you have to take into account for you dio is that the bridge itself is almost 40 centimeter long (about 15 inches) ! If you are interested, I can send you a scan of the 3-page article, provided you can read French
