Hey guys a interesting thing happen last night wile I was watching the Military Channel. They had a commercial cut that was a general promotion regarding the channel and about two secoonds into the coilage of tanks firing , planes flying and Apache helicopters firing off hellfire missles. There was a crew of maybe four or three soilders around this huge 105 Howitzer, and man! When I saw that thing go off, well the rest is history and I have about a thousand ideas floating around in my head. However, I don't have a lot of references. Do any of you know where this big howitzer has been deployed. And how crewmen does it have . Is it usually out in the open , deployed by helicopter, or behind sandbags in the trenches. Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds more like an M198 155mm howitzer. The M119A1 105mm howitzer is pretty small.

Here is onfo on both types.

M119A1 105mm howitzer.

M119A1 info.

M198 155mm howitzer.

Thanks HeavyArty for the correction on the model number and the great photos. I actually already have a 105 in my model stash and will have to find a M198 155mm howitzer.

Only M198 models out there are resin ones by Mouse House out of Australia and Airmodel, both in 1/35. They go fo about $75 each. Unfortunately, nothing in plastic.

Same goes for the M119A1. In 1/35, it is only available in resin from Mouse House as well, also about $75. There is also a 1/76 scale M119A1 in plastic, can't remember who makes it though.

Good luck. The M198 is one of the most sought after arty pieces in plastic. Hopefully, someone will put one out. I'll keep my fingers crossed, the resin ones are too pricey for me.

I just checked the prices on those: http://www.mheaust.com.au M198 model by Mouse House is about $93 USD including shipping. M198 by Airmodel at http://www.airmodel.de is about $92 USD with shipping.

M119A1 by Mouse House is about $69 with shipping. All are not inexpensive but look nice!

What is the separate shipping price? Is it at all feasible to have an Aussie ship it for you?
Cheers

Brad,
It does not look feasible to have an Aussie ship it to the U.S. b/c all the prices already include shipping and somehow shipping it to overseas is cheaper or the same as if it were shipped within Australia. Look here: http://www.mheaust.com.au/MHE/Resin/OZA/M198.htm

Thanks for feedback. I know because of my self impose budget which I know, most if not all of us deal with, my search for a M198 155 mm Howitzer will have to be put on hold for a while. At least until I finish up more projects that are already in my model stash. Does anyone know why the 155mm Howitzer is soooo expensive. I personally put a limit on the amount of money I will spend on a model. Maybe one day when I hit the lottery that rule will change. Anyway thanks for the advice

Because it is a low production resin kit. If it were done by one of the major companies in plastic, it would probably be on par with other plastic artillery pieces. Still keeping my fingers crossed for AFV Club, Dragon, or Italeri to do one in plastic.
