I'm planning on starting my DML Tiger 1 Late soon, and I'm just wondering a few things about the zimmerit, so here goes.
-Does anyone know a good AM set that's reasonably cheap and available in the UK? Or any good product that I can get to do the zimmerit myself?
-If I do the zimmerit myself, with putty or whatever, when should I apply it? What stage in the build?
-If there are other parts that will have zimmerit around them, hooks etc, should I try and put the zimmerit around them when they are glued, Leave gaps for them, or put them on top of the zimmerit?
-Will it be OK if I brush-paint the zimmerit? What about camo patterns? Will it work?
A lot of questions, thanks in advance for any help.
Dave

Hi Dave
just read TMMI mag issue # 123 jan 06, in which Peter Usher builds the Dragon late Tiger 1 ,OOB with a new (to me ) easy way to apply the feared zimmerit.
He uses a Wickes SOLVENT FREE "Forget nails" instant grab adhesive, and a junior hacksaw blade,he says he zimmed the tank in 1 1/2 hours, and it looks very impressive.
You must use the SOLVENT FREE or you'll end up with a heap of melted plastic, and if you mess it up, you can wash it off under a warm tap!! (it starts to cure after about 5 mins).
This looks a dam sight easier than the messy and time consuming milliput way ,and a hell of a lot cheaper than the AM kits.
I am going to give this a go when I start my late Tiger
Check the mag out it's worth it

Hey Dave:
I just tried some Zimmerit yesterday for the first time. I use milliput and the AFV Zimmerit Doe. Turned out not too bad. I added it to an Italeri Elefant kit. I would apply the zimmerit to the places that need it during the build stage. Leave holes around areas that need hooks, etc. I made the mistake of putting mine on too thick. You live, you learn.
Heres a great article

Hope this helps
